Happy to have participated to the LCF 2023 organized with gusto and efficiency by Paolo Buccirossi . We had interesting discussions on sustainability and the work of NCAs in this fast-moving world. I think many of the discussions raised foundational issues regarding the future of the competition law enterprise. We all realize that the field is changing but have not yet formed a clear idea about the possible directions of that change. Surely, this cannot be the return to the past (early 20th century) debates... nor the easy (and intellectually lazy...) escape to a general reference on the "dynamic" nature of the competitive process (it has always been like that!). We need to ask more fundamental questions about what makes things now different and explore new approaches. One is to engage in the discussion from the perspective of value theory and political economy.
