Efficient energy usage is a critical aspect of manufacturing processes for economic and environmental reasons, and to ensure they remain robust and reliable. The new book "Energy in Plastics Technology" by Prof. Wolfgang Kaiser and Prof. Willy Schlachter provides the necessary fundamentals for dealing with thermotechnical issues in the processing of plastics to achieve these goals. These fundamentals are applied methodically to practical problems, with a focus on the formulation of energy balances. This user-friendly book is aimed at engineers and students working in plastics technology as well as technicians and plastics technologists. We proudly present: Plastics Insights! That’s the new name of our magazine, which you used to know as Kunststoffe international. When we started looking for a new name a few months ago, I didn’t realize how many adjustments a name change would entail – and how many departments in our publishing house would be involved. But after a certain point, an impressive dynamic developed and a lot of ideas flowed into our project. Not that everything is set in stone. I’m convinced that as a magazine brand you have to keep evolving. But why all the effort? Until now, our English edition has often read like a “best of” our German parent magazine Kunststoffe. This is about to change. Of course, we will continue to publish in-depth technical articles from the world of plastics. But there will also be content that you will only find in Plastics Insights. Enjoy discovering! E-Paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/eR5ajhZe Susanne Schröder, Clemens Doriat, Florian Streifinger, Melanie Ehrhardt, Susanne Thyrauer, Jeanette Rober, Marion Völker

Like many sectors of the W.European Paper & Board industry, the Cartonboard sector is currently undergoing a phase of destocking. The chart below illustrates the impact of falling Production (and relatively consistent Capacity) on industry Operating Rates earlier this year. The question now is, when will this latest phase of destocking come to an end? Source: EMGE Paper & Board Monitor

We are at the SAFI- Sustainable and Alternative Fibers Initiative 🌱 board members annual meeting, with research managers and senior researchers from over 20 of the #top companies in the #pulp & #paper (P&PI) industry. One key conclusion, aside from the financial viability of some non-woods as feedstocks in pulp & paper mills in the US, is the need to use other sources, such as recycled #OCC as raw material for tissue products due to the decline in sorted office paper production. Please read our research on the subject, part of Dr. Franklin Zambrano dissertation at NC State Forest Biomaterials Department Developing Alternative, High-Absorbency Brown Fibers: Tissue Paper from Upcycled Corrugated Packaging Waste to Meet New Consumer Trends Authors: Franklin Zambrano Ronald Marquez Ramon Eduardo Vera Vera Hasan Jameel Richard Venditti Ronalds Gonzalez Highlights: 1. Sustainable Brown Tissue Paper Demand 🌿: The study addresses the growing consumer interest in brown tissue papers viewed as sustainable, despite their performance limitations, and explores using OCC as an alternative source of brown pulp. 2. Enhancing Tissue-Making Quality of OCC 💡: The research investigates the effectiveness of total chlorine-free treatments like oxygen delignification, alkaline hydrogen peroxide, and ozonation in improving the tissue-making properties of OCC pulp, achieving lower lignin content and increased brightness. 3. Improved Paper Properties 📈: The treated OCC resulted in tissue papers with higher strength, water absorption capacity, and rate, demonstrating the potential of these low-impact treatments in upcycling OCC into high-quality pulp for high-performance tissue manufacturing. #SustainablePaper #RecyclingInnovation #EcoFriendlyMaterials 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/eaM8bGQx

Having been immersed in the paper industry since a young age, witnessing its evolution is nothing short of mesmerizing. With Coniferous, I feel honored to be a part of a national industry that constitutes 2% of the world's paper and paperboard production. While pursuing Bio Products and Bio Systems engineering in Minnesota, I developed a desire to explore sustainable alternatives for existing practices in the paper trade. Dispelling outdated myths and addressing biases against the industry is a top priority for me. Experiencing the industry's evolution firsthand, I find the current market dynamics and the future outlook particularly exciting and promising, especially in light of the surging demand and changing consumer preferences. As I progress on this journey I invite you to join me! Let's collectively improve the flow of information, foster innovation, and contribute to the sustainable growth of this remarkable sector. #aboutme #coniferous #paperindustry #packagingsolutions #papersolutions #biosystems #sustainability #insights #sustainablealternatives #mythbusting
