National Food Bank Day is observed each year in September to recognize the critical role food banks - like the Atlanta Community Food Bank - play in supporting those at risk for or experiencing homelessness. PCCI launched its Direct Cash Transfer program to help individuals and families avoid homelessness. We discovered a great deal of food insecurity among participants: >>About 61% of participants worry about not having enough food, >>65% unable to eat the kinds of food they prefer, and the same percentage eating a limited variety of foods or foods they didn't want. >>Roughly 52% had to eat a smaller meal than needed, >>48% had to eat fewer meals in a day, and >>36% had no food to eat of any kind, while >>39% had to go to sleep hungry, and >>26% had to go a whole day and night without eating. Project Fed Hope aims to mend these threads, offering a helping hand to those in need while supporting local businesses on their journey. Our mission is twofold: To nourish and uplift: Each month, we come together to purchase packaged meals from struggling hawkers. These delicious offerings then become beacons of hope, distributed to individuals experiencing homelessness, the elderly facing isolation, or anyone feeling the pangs of hunger. To empower and collaborate: By supporting local businesses, we inject a dose of encouragement into their efforts. In turn, they provide affordable, convenient meals for our food distribution, creating a beautiful synergy of support. Joining the Fed Hope family is as simple as your desire to make a difference: Become a Food Hero: Join our monthly gatherings (every last Wednesday, 6pm, venue TBA based on hawker selection) Spread the warmth: Invite others to join the cause, fostering a network of compassion within our community. If you ever look at the tags on our social media posts and wonder, "Who are they?" we'll tell you now. They're our partners, and we couldn't do what we do without them. There's a lot to running an organization like ours and while we greatly appreciate when people give us money, we also benefit from the guidance and steering that these groups give us. As a group barely a year old, we soak up all the tips and lessons that our partners can give us. It's also a sign of how things should be in the nonprofit world. We need to help each other. There is competition for resources, yes, but there's also plenty of opportunity for collaboration and referrals. A volunteer who may be unsuited for one agency could thrive in a different one. For example, someone who signed up to help at an animal shelter may find out the hard way that pet dander is not their friend. But walking dogs for a group like Elderdog is right up their alley.
