This week, I was asked by a client to explain a little about my style and approach when working with a venue’s sales office team and was asked for my top 3 ‘mantras’. I got greedy and went for 4. I firmly believe…. 1. There is always room for improvement 2. The team have to get tired of hearing it, before we get tired of saying it – practice & repetition is key! 3. If everyone can rely on us to do what we said we would do, when we said we would do it, the job is already 50% done and 100% easier. 4. When reflecting on my sales background, it isn't just tied to IT products. I also want to mention what a fantastic time it was working in the hospitality industry and being a part of IHG Hotels & Resorts. Speaking about cultivating relationships with clients and partners, probably there's no better place to set strong connections with your customers than a hotel and its restaurant. Typically, a hotel is a place for people to unwind during business trips or relish their vacations. During hotel site inspections and meetings in the restaurant, it was so delightful to engage in conversations with customers (+ enjoy a cup of cappuccino and cheesecake, why not? 🍰☕️) from various industries...corporate, aviation, sports, travel, governmental organizations and many-many more. The reason why I recalled it all? First of all, because it was a truly enjoyable time. 😊 And the key point is the following: relationship-building process is not solely about business; we are all human beings. Establishing genuine human connections with customers is incredibly important. Making them feel relaxed allowed us to discuss not only business but also delve into other topics — connecting as humans rather than just service provider and customer.
