Sometimes you have to use the contrast between new and old to create context. The new corporate building flows with an organic presence, reflecting the city landscape in the curtain wall that runs from its top to bottom and fits into an environment of resudential houses built in the mid-20th century. In this case, the visual contrast between the most modern piece of the landscape and the oldest ones is evident but it should never be shocking. If you just stick with that "old and new" anecdote, you'll end up with some photos that may be interesting when someone sees them for the first time but may be boring when the viewer curiosity vanishes. That is why you have to be very careful when considering all the photographs you will take of a building and you have to think of them as explaining a story –or rather, like explaining a story to a child before going to sleep. How can I photograph a false ceiling without it crushing me? And even more so, how can I photograph it without crushing the viewer looking at the photo? To begin with, this false ceiling will not crush anyone: the quality of its materials and construction are proven and that will not represent any danger. But if I don't choose the right point of view to photograph it and don't correctly determine how much to raise my camera's tilt-shift lens, then I run the risk of making the visual appearance of the ceiling brown piece so heavy as to be intimidating to the viewer. My intention was then to find a good perspective to make the ceiling look friendly and that its weight had a perfect balance with the rest of the frame. Always in cases like this, I want the space to have a discreet but evident harmony and, in this specific one, I do want the false ceiling to be an elegant presence. If I did not portray it this way and the appearance of the space and the balance of its proportions were neglected, then the false ceiling would collapse in the eyes of the viewer – and I cannot allow that.
