Please see below for a quick overview by Nikhil Vaughan - Jeremy (Associate Consultant, Equities) of how we at Laz Partners see the Equity Long/Short hiring landscape in 2023 so far. 🌍 Over the past few months, we have observed a significant uptick in the demand for Equity Long/Short Portfolio Managers & Analysts for our hedge fund clients worldwide. It's interesting to see how the investment landscape is evolving and our hedge fund clients, in particular, are keen to engage with PMs with strong track records across a range of different strategies, whether sector-specific L/S or more of a generalist or even EM Equity L/S focus. While there has been a lot of churn in some of the larger platforms in this space, we are still seeing a lot of demand from our clients for strong candidates that bring a differentiated and uncorrelated approach. 📊 Reflecting on the past year, 2022 witnessed a common trend where hedge funds predominantly sought Analysts from the sell-side or their competitors. However, fast forward to 2023, and we are witnessing a remarkable surge in the hiring of talent from asset management backgrounds. These professionals often possess a more long-only biased or directional strategy and are eager to make a move into the exciting realm of Equity Long/Short positions. 📈 Through our conversations with candidates specialising in equities this year, approximately 20% of Equity L/S Analysts that currently work at top-tier platforms are expressing keen interest in exploring opportunities within boutique hedge funds that adopt a more directional approach. Whether you are an experienced PM or a skilled Analyst/Assistant PM looking to make a meaningful career shift, we are here to lend an ear and offer guidance. If you are excited about the prospects of Equity L/S positions or curious to explore what other opportunities await you, please feel free to reach out to Nikhil, as we are currently in touch with a wide range of firms that could potentially be interested in your profile. #equities #hedgefunds #portfoliomanagement #lazpartners #equityresearch #equitylongshort
