🌍 Returning to Work After a Holiday Abroad: Reflecting on Work-Life Balance 🛫 As I return to work after a rejuvenating holiday abroad, I'm reminded of the privilege it is to have a job that affords myself and my family the opportunity to explore new destinations and cultures. ✈️ Taking time away from work to recharge is not only beneficial for our well-being but also enriches our perspective and rejuvenates our creativity. Employees have used the time to do everything from travel, learn a new language, spend time with family, or even just pick up a new hobby. Here are a few tips that kept me sane while enjoying my time away: Plan Ahead: I set clear boundaries for my vacation time well in advance, allowing me to hand off tasks and ensure a smooth workflow in my absence. Delegate Like a Pro: Delegating tasks and responsibilities to my awesome colleagues ensured that work didn't pile up while I was away. Teamwork makes the dream work, after all! Automate Routine Tasks: I made use of technology to automate routine tasks and stay on top of important updates, allowing me to truly disconnect without worrying about missing out. Considering taking a sabbatical from work? A work sabbatical offers you time to explore, learn, and think more about what you want from life. It’s an extended and unstructured time-off to focus on what matters: family, health, personal interests and aspirations, and professional goals.

Traveling doesn’t = vacation. Sometimes it's just as simple as experiencing life somewhere else other than where you consider “home.” Reframing the societal norm & guilt around #traveling during a non-traditional time as allowed me to live more aligned. HARD for sure, to combat the pressure of where you feel like you should be vs. where you know it's okay to be. Building a life I don’t want to vacation from, one where I want to experience whatever opportunities I attract regardless of the time of year, has been really important to me since I quit my job working in sports. I’m never fully “checking out” of my reality, just simply doing life from a different location. Business as usual, aligned internally and open to receiving whatever is meant for me. This is a huge reason why I continue to work for myself. Somehow this topic of "traveling" is so controversial. We've seen it become a longer conversation since Covid, but if the works getting done, why does it matter where you are? (Obviously, job & industries differ.) Often it "matters" because other peoples egos, beliefs, and idea of what they think other peoples lives should look like … Sometimes it has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them. ✨ What are you thoughts around traveling during the work week?!

Can you really unplug when you combine workation with your vacation? 🔌 I often get this question. First of all, I don't always combine workation with my holidays, but I must admit that when the opportunity or need arises, I gladly do so. I am fortunate to come from the beautiful Napoli in southern Italy, and although I have been happily living in Germany for 9 years, I have to say that returning home to Italy always does me good.🔋 Especially in the past two years, I often combine vacation with workation in my hometown. And yes, I can really unplug and separate the two: during my workation weeks, I work normally (I usually start an hour earlier so I can have more free time in the afternoon) and then I enjoy the evening out with my family and friends, or do a running session around the lake. When vacation time starts, I shut down my computer and work phone, and with them, all work-related matters. This way, I can enjoy the islands, the coasts, long days at the beach, and plenty of relax. 😌 For me, it's the perfect combo, and I feel really lucky to do so. Yesterday marked TEN years since my husband and I departed on our yearlong sabbatical to all 7 continents. 🎉 Going off the beaten path of what society said I “should” do in life was the scariest thing I had done to date. But it was by far the most rewarding experience. ✨ I want to share the 3 C's I gained from our round the world trip… 1️⃣ CONFIDENCE I had always “played it safe.” By taking this risk, I proved to myself that I can push past my fears, figure out solutions, and live life on my terms. 💪 I strongly doubt I would have had the confidence to start a business if I hadn’t taken this sabbatical first. 2️⃣ CONNECTION When my husband and I made the decision to travel for a year, we had been married less than a year and together just over 3 years total. Traveling together literally 24/7/365 was like hitting the relationship Fast Forward button. ⏩ We faced countless challenges, worked together to solve them, improved our communication, and learned SO much more about each other that made our relationship so much stronger. 3️⃣ CLARITY By taking a yearlong break from my Management Consulting job, I was able to explore my identity and priorities outside my job. We were able to do big picture thinking about the future together. 💭 The break allowed us to be intentional about next steps, instead of living by default and drifting without direction. 👉 Here’s the good news: You don't have to travel for a year to get these outcomes. ☀️Reflections from Fuerteventura☀️ Last week was my birthday - I turned 51 - eek! In need of a much needed rest and some warmer weather - we headed to Fuerteventura. Amidst the sandy beaches and sunny skies, (and a few little showers) I found myself immersed in the pages of Timothy Ferriss' "The 4-Hour Work Week" which I read from cover to cover in 7 days. While I may be fashionably late to the party reading this, the insights within this book hit home. As a seasoned VA, the concept of outsourcing isn't new to me. But Tim's perspective shed new light on how strategic outsourcing can truly unlock freedom in our professional lives as well as our personal ones. How could I benefit from the 4-hour work week?! It triggered me to answer questions I hadn't thought about and finding the answers didn't come easily to me either. The idea of leveraging VA support to reclaim time and focus on what truly matters resonated with me. It's not just about offloading tasks; it's about creating a lifestyle that prioritizes fulfillment and purpose. Reflecting on my own VA business journey, I'm reminded of the power of delegation and intentional outsourcing for the purpose of a more fulfilling life.
