It's been almost four years since COVID-19 forced a surge in the use of technology in education. While #computerscience in #K12 is still in the primary stages of an enormous wave of growth, as the wave continues to build one of the best things schools can be doing is investing in a long-term strategy around CS. At CoderZ we provide a #KindergartentoCareer approach to CS, #K12coding and #robotics. Learn more about what former interim CFO of the U.S. Department of Education, Stanley Buchesky had to say about the future of CS in the classroom. https://hubs.la/Q02zkLsj0

We're now 15 years beyond the 2008 National Science Foundation CS10K initiative to train 10,000 computer science teachers. Some progress has been made, however: - Only 57% of US high schools offer foundational computer science courses. - Only 5.8% of students enroll in these courses. - Just 31% of the enrolled students are female. Did you know that Computational Thinking can be taught without coding? Yep, it's true. Starting in Kindergarten, we can teach kids foundational CT skills such as debugging, sequencing, abstraction, and decomposition which applies across all subjects. It's also a serious confidence boost to have young children learning these skills and the vocab that goes along with it as they move onto coding, physical computing, and beyond!🚀 https://lnkd.in/es9XWcrx
We're on a mission to bring Computer Science to Every Classroom! 🌐💻 📈 **The Current Landscape:** - Challenge: Only 57% of US high schools offer foundational computer science courses. - Our Solution: We bridge the gap by delivering comprehensive programs directly to elementary schools, ensuring no student is left behind. - Challenge: Just 5.8% of students enroll in existing CS courses - Our Solution: We deliver lessons that are fun, hands-on, and aligned with students' interests to spark curiosity and build confidence. - Challenge: Only 31% of students enrolled in existing CS courses are female - Our Solution: Through the spirit of Aloha, we promote inclusivity and create an environment where ALL students feel valued and welcome We're committed to revolutionizing education and equipping the next generation with the skills they need for a tech-driven world. 🚀💡 #CSForAll #CodingForKids #CodingIsFun https://lnkd.in/ezGk6BGB

On this episode of The Future of Everything, Chris Piech joins me to explain how computer-aided education can help students learn. Both human- and computer-aided education have their strengths and weaknesses. With this in mind, Chris and his colleagues have created several generative AI grading apps to help both computers and humans improve learning. This is the future of computer-aided education. https://lnkd.in/gtCxDNy9

How can we improve Computer Science education? How do we make it relevant, engaging and accessible? I think that we need to update the computing curriculum, embed digital skills across different subjects and make computing mandatory just like English and Maths until 16. The challenge of finding qualified teachers remains. We need to think of new ways of boosting teacher capacity by linking with industry and universities. Could we use the #peertopeer learning model in high schools and sixth-form colleges? https://lnkd.in/eUn4HyEE

Only 6% of U.S. students chose the #computerscience subject in 2022 despite more than half of public schools offering courses, according to Education Week & Code.org. While Computer Science integration is a priority in the U.S. and other countries, the reality is less optimistic. Monika Katkute: "Addressing teachers’ needs while providing them with effective tools and support, is crucial in reducing the CS-related gap in public schools.” Here's more: https://lnkd.in/eDEEtezP #K5 #ComputerScience #ComputerScienceTeachers #TeachersSupport #PublicSchools
