From 1980 until 1998 the Tempodrom as an unconventional cultural institution provided space for 3,500 people in two big tops. The nowadays outstanding structural feature is the 37 m high tent-like roof construction made from concrete above the Large Arena, with daylight entering through the glazed opening in its zenith. The symbolic roof form is a constructive interpretation of the phenomenon, which has characterized the identity of the Tempodrom in the past – the experience of the tent atmosphere. In the Liquidrom natural materials are used primarily. The floors and walls in the wet and bathing areas are clad with a greenish-grey natural stone; the walls of all other rooms are finished with refined fair-faced concrete. The wall cladding is made from untreated red cedar; the ceilings are suspended and dark coated. © Photos: Marcus Bredt © Model Photos: Heiner Leiska © Drawings: gmp Architekten #gmp #gmparchitects #gmpnews #Tempodrom #Liquidrom #Berlin #Culture #Architectur
