It's been over a year since SMARTSCORE Global went global, and we now have seven overseas entities in SEA and 26 talented individuals onboard across each country. However, achieving the perfect product and market fit through localization remains a challenging mission. During my walk in Thailand with my daughters, I learned a valuable lesson from the McDonald's symbol of localization with a global heart: Lessons from a Thai Greeting. Reflecting on the essence of localization in the global market, a great image came to my mind. It's of a familiar, jovial mascot traditionally seen beckoning customers into a world-famous fast-food chain. Yet, in this particular photo taken in Thailand, the mascot's hands are pressed together in the "wai" - a customary Thai greeting expressing respect and hospitality. This image is emblematic of how global brands can successfully blend into the local landscape, and it sets the stage for a discussion close to my heart and central to my business: localization in the golf industry. In the golf world, just as in fast food, understanding and integrating into the local culture is not merely a marketing tactic; it's a cornerstone of customer engagement and satisfaction. The following research was done by SEGUN COLE, who looks forward to Afridigest delving deeper into the rise of Glovo in Africa and explore the intricate web of individuals fueling its growth. The "Mafia" has undeniably fueled Glovo's exponential African growth, sharing knowledge, trust, and access to local talent, allowing the company to adapt and navigate diverse markets with exceptional agility. This entrepreneurial spirit breeds a culture of innovation, potentially revolutionizing the delivery sector. However, critics argue that the tight-knit group might create barriers to entry for new players, hindering healthy competition and market diversity. The interconnectedness raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest, transparency, fairness in partnerships, investments, and decision-making within the network. As Glovo continues its African expansion, the influence of the "Mafia" will be closely watched. Will it propel the company to even greater heights, or will the inherent risks outweigh the benefits? The Transition Pathway for a more resilient, digital, and green retail ecosystem was officially launched yesterday at a High-level conference on retail in Brussels. Mark Jordan, Valérie Rousselin Somerville, and Robert Lynch of the Skillnet Ireland team attended as part of the Skills4Retail project. The Conference on Retail launched by European Commission DG Grow, showcased how Skillnet Ireland is at the forefront of delivering the Twin Transition Pathway for Retail. Dr. Oran Doherty from Retail Ireland Skillnet set the stage by discussing the skills required for the future retail workforce, while Diana Filip presented Skills4Retail, an innovative EU-funded project addressing challenges associated with the triple transition of green, digital, and resilience, while also attracting new talent to the retail sector. whenever I’m sized by doubts about the capacity to disrupt certain industries or replace sloppy incumbents, here come episodes from real life to reassure me. This is from a 60 Bio Mkt cap company, introducing and boasting their parcel tracking capabilities. My questions to its CEO are the following: 1. do you seriously think customers care about infos such as “instruction for this shipment having been provided electronically” or if “the shipment has been processed” in a german unknown location ? Or that the only things that matter are where the parcel is and when is it supposed to arrive at destination (no clue on both from the update)? 2. at the bottom of the page a “register to receive notice” link provides some hope to poor customers… however when U click on it you land of a form asking a bunch of infos… in German !?!. Is it frequent for an Italian national with an Italian language set up in browser, and a shipping destination Greece to be fluent in German ? 3. have you in your life ever shipped an item ? or checked a status of a shipment ? 🙄 #Customerservice #disruption #innovation #startup
