Today, Holmbergs is associated with safety products for the automotive and child car seat industry. That’s not surprising, since that's what we've been doing for almost 70 years! But from the very beginning, Holmbergs used to produce completely different goods.
Under the name Holmbergs Metallfabrik, the first product, developed in 1939, was a towel rack. The next product was ski pant buckles. This buckle was also the start of the direction the company would take over the next few decades.
During the war years, imports from Germany and England, among other places, were stopped. This meant that Holmbergs Metallfabrik had an increased demand for products like suspender buckles, bra buckles, garter buckles and corset springs. The factory could produce as much as 24 million buckles for women's garters in a year.
In the 1950s a now familiar product was added to the range. When the authorities in Sweden and the United States, among others, began to wonder if it might be good to have some kind of seat belt for drivers and passengers in cars… 🚗
