❎ GETEC Benelux was present at PETnology conference 2024. Last June 12th and 13th, the PETnology Conference 2024 took place at lake Zurich in Rapperswil. This event is all about the latest PET packaging and machinery topics and regulations. Emiel Klootsema and Jan Willem Slijkoord have presented a new innovative analysis methodology to detect a specific Non-Intentional Added Substance (NIAS) in recycled PET based on the solution- and precipitation principle. Some takeaways: ✔ The drive for sustainability has clearly set in with clear focus on energy savings, material reduction and recycling. ✔ Due to the good recyclability of PET, more and more brand owners consider the use of PET instead of other packaging polymers. ✔ Proper recycling of PET waste products into food-compliant recycled PET demands proper analyses of NIAS and purity testing. GETEC Benelux offers a wide range of analyses to control and monitor recycled PET purity. This will become increasingly important. Want a copy of our presentation? 📢 «The PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms Conference 2024» 📌 Attracted by the existing #PET tray recycling #ecosystem ♻ in the province of Granada, PETCORE EUROPE is organising this year its annual PET thermoformed packaging event, in order to make the #circularity of "Tray2Tray" trays visible. This ecosystem has its origin in Sulayr Recycling PET Trays S.L.U., with more than 15 years of experience in the sector, being a pioneer in PET tray #recycling and leading #PET tray recycling in #Europe. 🇪🇺 ✅ Taking advantage of this event, #SULAYR has developed a short documentary in which it explains the business cluster generated in the province, as a clear example of #circulareconomy, in this case about #PETtrays. ♻ This circularity in the recycling of trays has been achieved thanks to the companies formed by: #ECOCENTRAL Diputación de Granada, Sulayr Recycling PET Trays S.L.U., Envases Ureña Sa, CircularPET y Cooperativa La Palma, thus completing the circularity in the recycling of the PET tray from start to finish. ⭕ ✅ PETCORE EUROPE, as the European association that encompasses the entire #PET packaging value chain, will be responsible for promoting the recycling of PET trays on 25 and 26 June, taking as an example the ecosystem that the company #SULAYR has promoted in the province of #Granada, the #tray2tray circularity. 🌐

Join us at Petcore Europe Annual Conference on February 7-8, 2024, in Brussels! Alessandra Funcia, Chairwoman of the Working Group on Opaque and Functional PET Bottles, will be sharing insights into the activities of the group’s several task forces. Don’t miss her session on February 8th, 3.50 PM. The task forces are dedicated to assessing existing and new sorting technologies, providing end-of-life strategies, defining outlet criteria, and improving the Designs for Recycling Guidelines for opaque and functional PET bottles. This collaborative effort along the entire value chain generates scientifically supported solutions for establishing high-quality recycling streams. The goal is to maintain the integrity of the existing clear PET bottle recycling stream while setting up dedicated streams for food-grade white opaque and non-white opaque PET bottles. By establishing separate streams, cross-contamination is minimized, value is added to the recyclates, and the quality of each stream is increased, ultimately supporting circularity and making recycling a sustainable business. Explore the full agenda: https://lnkd.in/gFqPrHTp We look forward to seeing you there! #PETcoreEuropeAnnualConference2024 #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #RecycledPET #PETPackaging

At Lyrba USA, we recognize the opportunity in increasing the recycling rate of thermoformed PET. Our 6 proposed solutions address the complexities of this process, aiming to streamline recycling efforts and build a more circular future. Here's what we propose: 1. Standardizing package designs: Simplify recycling by encouraging uniform designs and clear labeling for consumer awareness and efficient sorting. 2. Educating consumers: Increase awareness through campaigns to promote responsibility and engagement, boosting collection rates. 3. Creating efficient sorting systems: Tailor systems to ensure prompt delivery to recycling facilities and minimize contamination for higher rates. 4. Developing quality standards: Enforce standards to promote recycled PET sustainability, encouraging industry adoption of alternatives. 5. Industry-wide collaborations: Collaborate for innovation in sorting technologies, streamlining thermoformed PET processing for efficiency. 6. Stimulating market demand: Offer incentives to drive investment in thermoformed PET recycling, fostering a sustainable market ecosystem. In our collective efforts lies the power to revolutionize thermoformed PET recycling. Together, let's shape a more circular future. #pet #thermoforming #rpetsheets #rpet #rpetindustry #rpettrends #innovation #circulareconomy #lyrbausa

📢 Petcore Europe is delighted to share that Alessandra Funcia from Sukano attended National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) AGM this week, where she was able to spread the word on the activities at Petcore Europe. “I firmly believe that the unity of two influential entities, Europe and North America, holds immense potential in showcasing exemplary leadership in addressing the global challenge of plastic waste management. By coming together, we can pave the way for a new virtuous economy, maximizing the value of plastics and recognizing their worth. There's much to glean from the commendable efforts of both organizations: National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR), and Petcore Europe, who are actively seizing the opportunity by focusing on opaque and functional PET bottles end of life🔁.” - said Alessandra Funcia. #PETRecycling #OpaqueAndFunctionalPET #PETPackaging #PETRecyclingInEurope #PETRecyclingInNorthAmerica #CircularEconomy #RecycledPET #DesignForRecycling #PETCollection #CircularPET #Sustainability #FullCircularity #PetPlastic

📢 Ahead of the PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms Conference in Granada, Spain, on 25-26 June, the technical manager of Petcore Europe's thermoforming working group, Jose Antonio Alarcon, spoke to Argus Media about the development and challenges of tray-to-tray recycling in Europe. "Most of the PET recycling industry has been concentrated on recycling 🔁 PET bottles, while tray packaging makes up around 25pc of the overall PET market in Europe. For many years, bottle producers were not keen to use recycled content in their packaging, so most recycled PET flakes were going into tray applications. As regulation continues to push up recycled content in bottles, more and more flakes are going to the bottle market, while trays have not followed the same circularity path and recycled content supply has become more competitive." - said Jose Antonio Alarcon, technical manager at PETCORE EUROPE.
