📢 «The PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms Conference 2024»   📌 Attracted by the existing #PET tray recycling #ecosystem ♻ in the province of Granada, PETCORE EUROPE is organising this year its annual PET thermoformed packaging event, in order to make the #circularity of "Tray2Tray" trays visible. This ecosystem has its origin in Sulayr Recycling PET Trays S.L.U., with more than 15 years of experience in the sector, being a pioneer in PET tray #recycling and leading #PET tray recycling in #Europe. 🇪🇺 ✅ Taking advantage of this event, #SULAYR has developed a short documentary in which it explains the business cluster generated in the province, as a clear example of #circulareconomy, in this case about #PETtrays. ♻ This circularity in the recycling of trays has been achieved thanks to the companies formed by: #ECOCENTRAL Diputación de Granada, Sulayr Recycling PET Trays S.L.U., Envases Ureña Sa, CircularPET y Cooperativa La Palma, thus completing the circularity in the recycling of the PET tray from start to finish. ⭕ ✅ PETCORE EUROPE, as the European association that encompasses the entire #PET packaging value chain, will be responsible for promoting the recycling of PET trays on 25 and 26 June, taking as an example the ecosystem that the company #SULAYR has promoted in the province of #Granada, the #tray2tray circularity. 🌐

Alessandra Funcia, Chairwoman of the Working Group on Opaque and Functional PET Bottles, will be sharing insights into the activities of the group’s several task forces. The task forces are dedicated to assessing existing and new sorting technologies, providing end-of-life strategies, defining outlet criteria, and improving the Designs for Recycling Guidelines for opaque and functional PET bottles. This collaborative effort along the entire value chain generates scientifically supported solutions for establishing high-quality recycling streams. The goal is to maintain the integrity of the existing clear PET bottle recycling stream while setting up dedicated streams for food-grade white opaque and non-white opaque PET bottles. By establishing separate streams, cross-contamination is minimized, value is added to the recyclates, and the quality of each stream is increased, ultimately supporting circularity and making recycling a sustainable business. 📢 Ahead of the PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms Conference in Granada, Spain, on 25-26 June, the technical manager of Petcore Europe's thermoforming working group, Jose Antonio Alarcon, spoke to Argus Media about the development and challenges of tray-to-tray recycling in Europe. "Most of the PET recycling industry has been concentrated on recycling 🔁 PET bottles, while tray packaging makes up around 25pc of the overall PET market in Europe. For many years, bottle producers were not keen to use recycled content in their packaging, so most recycled PET flakes were going into tray applications. As regulation continues to push up recycled content in bottles, more and more flakes are going to the bottle market, while trays have not followed the same circularity path and recycled content supply has become more competitive." - said Jose Antonio Alarcon, technical manager at PETCORE EUROPE.
