Earlier this week, we kicked off our #PrideMonth celebrations with Tris Reid-Smith as a guest speaker in our Cologne office. Tris is a journalist who recently founded the non-profit organization PrideWide. He outlined the historical development of LGBTQ+ rights from its beginnings to the present day and reflected on the implications for today's development. He also reminded us that while much has been achieved, we need to continue to talk about and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. Thank you, Tris, for your interesting and energizing presentation, and a big shout out to the org team Christian Tomberg, Nicole Piprek, Andrew Topp and our LGBTQ+ Employee Resource group chair Andrew D'Arcy.

In 2010, a powerful global movement was sparked when LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies spoke three words that would echo hope and resilience — "it gets better." This simple yet profound message ignited a wildly successful social media campaign, with over 70,000 individuals sharing their stories to offer solace and encouragement to young members of the LGBTQ+ community. Today, It Gets Better stands as a prominent global non-profit organization, touching the lives of millions of young people annually. Through an array of inspiring media initiatives, educational resources, and a network of international affiliates spanning 19 countries, It Gets Better provides vital support and access to community-based services. https://lnkd.in/gbA9BEfe #abbysoulproductions #resources #itgetsbetter #againsthomophobia

Like many other Queer people my age and older, I can still remember when I saw the news about the tragic murder of Matthew Shepherd. As a young child in the midwest hearing that something like that could happen just 500 miles aways, was shocking. But it also made me to realize that the parts of me that I knew were different were things that could put me in danger. It took me 15 years to feel safe enough to even verbalize out loud who I truely am. I will never be silent again. Stories like Matthew Shepherd's are far too common in the news today. A resent study reported that LGBT people are nine times more likely than non-LGBT people to be the victims of violent hate crimes. The increase in hate crimes against Trans people specifically has gone up by 11% in just the past year, and by 186% in the last five years overall. I encourage you to actively support the LGBTQ+ communities in your area to strengthen the positive presence of Allies in the eyes of those that are feeling frightened and alone. Be the light. October 12th marks the passing of Matthew Shepard, and now, even 25 years later, many can still remember the horrible tragedy and the affect it had on the LGBTQ+ community. While great progress has been made since 1998, we still have work to do to protect the rights of all Arizonans and Americans. Sign the Unity Pledge to help us advance workplace equality and equal treatment in housing and public accommodations for LGBTQ+ individuals: UnityPledge.com In honor of today, consider learning more about the Matthew Shepard Foundation and making a donation. The organization empowers individuals to find their voice and create change. https://lnkd.in/dpeNqppG #MatthewShepard

Queer youth deserve to become queer elders. Our LGBTQ+ folks deserve to live long, joy-filled lives, thriving alongside everyone else. There has been no history without queer people, and there is no future without us. We are innovators and healers across communities worldwide. As the so-called united states continues to attack our queer relatives through record-breaking anti-LGBTQ+ laws and multiple forms of oppression, it's crucial to continue donating to LGBTQ+ organizations, attending protests or rallies, or contacting elected officials to demand change! None of us are free until we are ALL free! #PrideMonth #Pride23 #LGBTQ

Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As a People Leader I want to share ways to demonstrate your commitment and support for LGBTQ+ rights and equality. Diversity is our strength, and we all should be committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered. Here's how we all can demonstrate our commitment: 1. Inclusive Policies: Update your policies to ensure they are LGBTQ+ inclusive. From anti-discrimination measures to learning resources, strive to create an environment where everyone can thrive. 2. Pronouns Matter: Encourage everyone to share their pronouns in their email signatures and introductions. Let's normalize this practice and create a more respectful workplace. 3. Visibility: Throughout Pride Month, share stories of LGBTQ+ employees, allies, and community members. Celebrate their achievements and resilience. 4. Community Engagement: Actively support LGBTQ+ through donations to impactful organizations and events. Here is an organization that I will be donating to this month. Check it out and join me in supporting ALL with LOVE! Houston's New Faces of Pride: https://lnkd.in/gJar4dMk Remember, supporting LGBTQ+ rights isn't just about a month—it's a year-round commitment. Let's continue to learn, grow, and stand together as allies. #pridemonth #alllovematters #lovewins

The problem doesn't lie with the campaign, but rather with the adverse response it has sparked. If we stand firmly against homophobia and transphobia, such discussions become unnecessary. However, society appears to recognize these harmful attitudes, consciously ignore them, and even appease them, thus conveying a message that this backlash is effective and empowering those who aim to harm our community. Our focus, therefore, should extend beyond addressing the surge in homophobia and transphobia. We must also address the growing acceptance of these prejudiced viewpoints. The media industry wields considerable influence in this arena. As the gateway for content and knowledge, we bear a responsibility to reject these perceived backlashes and continue to do what is right and show unwavering commitment and support for the rights of LGBTQ+ people to live equal and positive lives. #lgbtq #advertising #mediaindustry

It’s Pride month. Let the pride washing commence. Companies that have never spoken about, shared, took a stance on, or took action on LGBTQ+ rights will now be donning the old rainbow flag to cash in on pride month, and tick a diversity box. Even companies that support politicians and parties with poor LGBTQ+ records will throw on a rainbow to get in on the action. We see you. We don’t need “awareness”, everyone’s heard of us. We need action. Here’s an easy win - start publishing how much of your pride month profits you’re donating. #lgbtq #pride #pridewashing
