Nasco Talks 🎙️ #2 A talk with Yasmin Avtar- Export Manager- Team Africa at Nasco 🌍 1️⃣ Given your 7 years of experience at Nasco can you tell us how the African Food distribution landscape has changed over time? There’s a rise of Private Label Brands: They are often positioned as high-quality alternatives to national brands at a lower price point. With a youthful demographic profile and rising urbanization rates, there’s a growing consumer base for FMCG products- especially items coming from the UK. Rising incomes, and evolving consumer preferences create opportunities for growth and investment, but a nuanced understanding of local contexts and regulatory environments is required. 2️⃣ Can you discuss any market trends or consumer preferences in the region and how your sales strategies adapted prior? Using digital communication channels such as WhatsApp and always being available to talk to customers has been a key part of maintaining my relationships with customers. The use of other platforms for marketing, distribution, and sales has reshaped consumer engagement further compared to before when emails were the main thing. 3️⃣ If you can point out one important thing about maintaining strong relationships with customers what would it be? Communication. Regular communication allows both parties to understand each other’s needs, expectations, and challenges. When both parties are honest, and open it creates a foundation of trust that strengthens the relationship over time. 4️⃣ Which of the Nasco Private Label products are doing well in the African region and do you see future opportunities? London Biscuits has captivated the African Region. Shortbread and London Cookies are in high demand. Knowing that our products bring joy to people’s lives, whether it’s a simple indulgence during a tea break or a shared moment of happiness with loved ones, is incredibly rewarding. As I mentioned before, you cannot do business without trust – Businesses like NASCO UK, which prioritize trust in their relationships with customers, partners and employees are better positioned to thrive in today’s competitive and dynamic marketplace 💙🗺️. #nascouk #fmcg #trade

"The Pride of Quality and Price" A few days ago, Oluwasegun Daniel Oladejo of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and I met up in Abuja, the back story of our friendship which had blossomed over LinkedIn was the fact that we both worked at Consolidated Breweries Plc. (A Subsidiary of Heineken International) at almost the same time. Just like any journey in life, we all take unique paths, however 10 years later we are in different places still. The interesting take in this story is that Consolidated brands are "Saving Segment brands" we were trained to sell based on being the cheapest, that was our "Unique Selling Point" One thing that Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions | Hospitality have in common is our "Quality" I kept thinking about our discussion and this was how my padi explained. He Said 1. Let the Customer make the choice : As Sales People , we assume everything is expensive, however at times the Client is tired of cheap and crappy, show them evrything you have got and let them choose. 2. Visibility : At Consolidated Breweries/ Nigerian Breweries Plc "Visibility" as a consumer driver was high on our KPIs and Sales call visits, it was interesting to see how he had displayed his SKUs' on the shelf ( yes o Concrete blocks is what the guy displayed) . 3. Go To Market Strategy 4. Stakeholder Management. Another point we raised was that being intentional on LinkedIn has helped our careers, but it is important to note that beautiful resumes comes along with some heatbreak and lots of sheer determination to "Be Successful" Sales as a career is "A fellowship of Bethren" Be Nice! Cheers Oga Dan! the best has just begun Padi mi!

Working and living in Thailand… Understanding how Thais think are as important as have a good compelling products and excellent in execution. Usually when a foreign company with successful product aboard thinks it is a “walk into the park” for their products. As the matter of fact, it is important to figure out how you enter the market and how you position the products without losing your shirts after a couple of months. “Copy cat” version of the products appeared faster than you think. Enforcement becoming an issue no matter how compelling your products or your case would be. We had lots of launch party and lots of free food and wines, but it does not meant you get into the executives who championed your products in country. Similar to your executives, they measured by sales and profitability. What it is important for you and your company is finding a reliable yet honest partners with strong track record to lower your risk in entering the country. Happy Selling… #lbfalumni #skyhightower #thailand

CJ CheilJedang has recently started producing kimchi in Australia to meet the growing demand for high-quality kimchi locally, instead of relying on imports from Korea. The company has purchased a manufacturing plant in Australia and is now offering 400-gram and 900-gram sliced kimchi packs made with locally sourced ingredients under its renowned brand, Bibigo. Previously, kimchi in Australia was solely imported from Korea. The CEO of CJ's Oceania subsidiary, Cha Yoo-jin, shared that the establishment of the new Australian kimchi plant is part of the company's strategy to promote kimchi globally leveraging Bibigo's increasing brand recognition worldwide. This move to set up a local kimchi production facility for export follows CJ's successful venture in the United States, where they acquired a manufacturing plant and experienced a 40% surge in kimchi sales across North America last year. CJ plans to expand its range of kimchi products through the local Australian plant to target broader consumer markets in the region. With a vision to popularize kimchi on a global scale, CJ is exporting its kimchi to 50 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Vietnam, Australia, and Europe. The company witnessed a significant growth in sales across its international markets last year, with an average increase of 20% year-on-year. Notably, Japan saw a 31% rise, Europe experienced a 25% increase, and CJ expanded its presence in Europe by partnering with major platforms like Costco. Vietnam emerged as a standout market for CJ, where the company captured 62% of the country's kimchi market share last year. Lim Hee-jeong, who oversees CJ CheilJedang's kimchi division, attributed Bibigo kimchi's global popularity to the company's patented probiotics and the use of carefully selected ingredients that undergo strict quality control measures.
