𝐒𝐀𝐏 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 SAP Private Cloud is a dedicated cloud environment for a single customer. It provides a tailored and isolated cloud infrastructure that meets specific business requirements. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: • 𝐶𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑧𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: High level of customization to fit specific business processes and compliance needs. • 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙: Greater control over the environment, including hardware, software, and security measures. • 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒: Enhanced capabilities to meet stringent regulatory and compliance requirements. • 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒: Dedicated resources can result in better performance and reliability. 𝐒𝐀𝐏 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 SAP Public Cloud is a multi-tenant cloud environment where resources are shared among multiple customers. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: • 𝑆𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦: Easily scalable to accommodate growing business needs. • 𝐶𝑜𝑠𝑡-𝐸𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑦: Lower costs due to shared resources and economies of scale. • 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑧𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: Standardized solutions and processes that enable rapid deployment. • 𝐼𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: Frequent updates and innovations with minimal disruption. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧: 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: You do not own or control the underlying infrastructure, relying on the cloud provider for maintenance and updates. 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: You have more control over the infrastructure, whether hosted on-premises or with a dedicated cloud provider. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: Security and compliance are primarily the responsibility of the cloud provider. 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: You have greater control over implementing your own security measures and compliance policies. 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: Offers scalability and elasticity, allowing easy resource scaling based on demand. 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: Scalability is available but may require more effort to expand resources. Performance can be optimized based on specific requirements. 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑: Generally more standardized, limiting customization options. Integration with other systems may require additional effort. 𝑆𝐴𝑃 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑 Offers greater customization options, tailoring infrastructure to meet specific needs, and easier integration with other systems. Choosing between SAP Public and Private Clouds depends on your organization's unique requirements, priorities, and constraints. While public clouds offer scalability and convenience, private clouds provide more control over security, compliance, and customization. #SAP

Taming the cloud costs (Part I) In continuation of my previous post regarding the reasons for cloud cost explosion in most organizations. I will break the solutions aspects into multi part post. This is the part I of the same. You can find my first post with the reasons here - Starting with understanding the costs. My orgs, I realized, including the ones where worked earlier had either a very high level understanding of their cloud usage cost or almost no understanding. So, that would be the starting step - What we can understand, we can fix!! 😊 Visibility into Cloud Costs - 1) Utilize Cloud Cost Management Tools: Implement cloud cost management tools and platforms to track, analyze, and optimize cloud spending. These tools provide visibility into cost drivers, usage patterns, and opportunities for cost savings. 2) Establish Cost Allocation and Tagging: Implement cost allocation mechanisms and tagging strategies to attribute cloud costs accurately to departments, projects, or cost centers. This enables better accountability and decision-making regarding resource utilization. 3) Conduct Regular Cost Reviews: Schedule regular reviews of cloud costs and performance metrics to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for optimization. Engage stakeholders in discussions to prioritize cost-saving initiatives and track progress over time. The next step or rather, a parallel step would be to establish process maturity. Most management teams don't have visibility and hence, it results in over-usage, under-usage or no-usage (remember, when you found on Monday morning - that the weekend development instances bill was $3000 and that too when no one was working!! 😉 ). So, this is very serious business. Establish Process Maturity - 1) Implement a Cloud Governance team: This must be a central team. Define policies, procedures, and controls to govern cloud resource utilization effectively. This includes establishing guidelines for provisioning, monitoring, and managing cloud services. 2) Conduct Cloud Readiness Assessments: Assess the organization's readiness for cloud adoption and identify gaps in processes, skills, and tools. Develop action plans to address these gaps and improve process maturity. 3) Provide Training and Education: Offer training programs and workshops to help teams understand cloud best practices, cost optimization strategies, and how to navigate the cloud environment effectively. 4) Foster Collaboration and Communication: Encourage cross-functional collaboration between development, operations, finance, and procurement teams to align on cloud goals, priorities, and decision-making processes. Each of these requires planning and then, execution to put into practice.

Forrester Cloud-Study of Asia/Pasific companies - The study, paid for by IPaaS provider Boomi, found that 87% had exceeded their set cloud budgets over the past two years and that 69% foresee exceeding their cloud budgets during the current fiscal year. The Forrester study highlights a critical gap in cloud cost management and optimization (CCMO) tools. They are being used too little, too late, and without an understanding of the business problems they must address. One of the study's key findings relates to the timing of implementing CCMO initiatives. Most of the studied companies adopted cost management measures too late. Many occur after deployment in the cloud. Only 5% of decision-makers reported that their strategies for cloud cost remediation were as proactive as possible. Getting cloud spending under control continues to be a priority, even if results do not show that. This means major fixing needs to be done at the architecture and integration level, which mostly in IT view are seen as overly complex and too expensive to fix. The problem bites itself in the tail?
