One of our project which started at TU Delft | Industrial Design Engineering was exhibited at The Dutch Design Week in the DREAM.DISCOVER.DESIGN exhibition in the month of October, 2023.  Over 15,000 attendees interacted with The Personal Press, engaging in discussions and raising insightful concerns about the future. “The personal press” is a project where we question what will happen if AI could influence the content of news articles that define our perception of the world. Would this allow every individual to view the world through their own lens? Which makes us wonder, "What if what I see, is not the same as what you see?" To answer this question, we looked at was possible with technologies today and created The Personal Press. In essence, The Personal Press is a generative newspaper that tells you what you want to hear. You can create a reader profile by choosing the tone of voice and the style the article is written in. The Personal Press will then generate a real news article in return, altered to your personality. Here are some images from the interactive table designed for the exhibition “The Circle”. The table, developed by Paolo Corti, served as visitors’ initial introduction to the world of data visualization, a relatively novel addition within the context of a photographic exhibition. Through interaction with the screen, visitors could explore the potential contributions of circular solutions in reversing Earth’s overshoot, the flow of materials at the European level, and consumer habits regarding circularity. The first graphic illustrates how circular solutions can help reverse the overshoot, presenting planetary boundaries and the impact of a circular approach. The second visualization depicts the flow of materials as they pass through the EU economy, eventually being discharged back into the environment or reintroduced into economic processes. Lastly, the third graphic illustrates the actions related to circular practices that consumers regularly adopt when buying, using, and disposing of products. The aim is to create a “living and working environment” that addresses the questions of the time in the form of an art lab. Opening: Saturday, September 30, 2023, 6 p.m. Events: The entire house with a café and the open space in the courtyard is a venue for a variety of event formats. October 1 – November 19.2023 In view of the apparent lack of willingness worldwide to acknowledge climate changes as such or even to respond to them through collective and individual behavioral changes, the question arises as to how we as a global society can find a way out of this schizophrenic situation. The prerequisite for a comprehensive understanding would be that we can transcend ideological boundaries, agree on something like the smallest common reality and at the same time recognize that our freedom is only legitimate insofar as the freedom of people in other world zones and of subsequent generations is not restricted. This presupposes that we are ready worldwide to distinguish between opinion and scientifically based knowledge, but also, for example, that not every luxury is legitimate just because the money is available for it. From this point of view, we need a global, ecologically based enlightenment, including a new democratic “operating system” that goes beyond capitalism and socialism. 🤩 Art provokes creative problem solving Our objective for PORQUÈNO SIX is to provide a refreshing opportunity to contribute to sustainable thinking through immersive artistic expression. Just because art can be beautiful doesn’t mean it’s not essential, important, or impactful. PORQUÈNO SIX represents the intersection of art, creativity and problem solving. The connection between art and problem solving has been captured by art historian Amy Herman in her book, Fixed. How to Perfect the Fine Art of Problem-Solving, published in March 2022. “Art provides a safe space outside of ourselves to analyse our observations and convert those observable details into actionable knowledge,” she wrote. PORQUÈNO provides artists with a safe space, a free immersive experience, where rules and conventions are left behind. In this safe space, imagination and boldness reign. “Docu & Demo” – an umbrella title for a public exhibition, a keynote talk, and a workshop – at Collegium Helveticum / ETH Zurich on Feb 15-29, 2024 is addressing the urgent and fundamental question of how to prolong the memory of digital (or digitized) cultural heritage into the future. The more complex, multifaceted, and networked these works are, the more they are threatened by successful technological advancement. How should they be documented, recorded, interpreted, reworked, or also performed to be able to convey their inherent richness? As many facets come into play – technical, social, aesthetic, reception- and production-related dimensions – what are pursued ways how to draw that together?    “Docu & Demo” embarks on an exploration of condensed forms of knowledge acquisition and transmission, such as multimodal models. My interdisciplinary research teams "Browser Art" and "Coded Secrets" are exhibiting the outcomes of three different analytical experiments. They resulted in three types of “models” that serve heuristic, epistemic, and communicative purposes, in this case primarily in art history. The corresponding artworks by JODI and Heath Bunting are presented as well and allow a critical evaluation of the models derived from them.   Come and discuss with us!

In a recent engaging conversation, we had the pleasure of discussing the dynamic intersection of art and technology with Mon Muellerschoen. Her unique perspective as the Managing Director of an art consultancy, a columnist for Bunte Magazine, and the visionary founder of a digital art community, called Wunderkunst.Shop, offered profound insights into the evolving art landscape.
