Celebrating 5 Years of Innovation and Impact Since our journey began on January 01, 2019, the Alectra GRE&T Centre has achieved many remarkable impactful milestones. From developing the transformative energy app, GridExchange, and watching it transition from concept to a commercial reality, to the Advantage Power Pricing (APP) project which set the groundwork for the Ultra-low Overnight pricing (https://lnkd.in/gsft8NT6), positively impacting EV drivers in Ontario. The IESO York Region Non-Wires Alternatives Demonstration Project made history as North America's first local energy marketplace, showcasing our commitment to pioneering solutions. Projects like POWER.HOUSE® and PowerHouse Hybrid helped empower households to participate in the ongoing energy transition. Through programs like AlectraDrive, our innovation team helped drive Alectra's emobility strategy. The past year marked a significant leap as we embraced generative AI and ventured into the Data and Enterprise Architecture domain, resulting in increased efficiency. We capped off 2023 with the historic achievement of Zero Carbon Building status for our Guelph Southgate office. Looking ahead to 2024, we anticipate a year brimming with collaboration, innovation, and purpose as we collectively work towards powering a better tomorrow. Doing research and interview experts to discover the challenges on the way to a circular battery sector. Many thanks to Abhishek Gurunath of Nunam, Rohan Singh Bais ⚡🔋♻️🇮🇳 of ZiptraX CleanTech, Prathamesh Patki of Altigreen Propulsion Labs and many others in India and the Netherlands. 💡Tomorrow this culminates in an ideation workshop with Micelio , Global Business Insights, Urban Morph and Enviu. We are looking forward to generating impactful ideas and business concepts with this great group. ♻️ The room we are using is right next to the actual battery room in this picture. A perfect example of what EV-batteries can still do after their first life is over. But there are many hurdles on the way still. Few solutions 👇 🪁 Leveraging kites for ships has shown potential, with an anticipated 20% reduction in emissions per year, adaptable to all existing cargo ships. Exciting investments in kite technology by innovators like Yves PARLIER & Team for the Planet are promising. Proud to be on the early investor in TFTP! ⛵ Pioneering sail-powered ships offer a remarkable 90% reduction in emissions, primarily for new vessels. Initiatives by Grain de Sail and TOWT 🌬️ TransOceanic Wind Transport are driving this transformative change. ⛴️ Hybrid cargo ships integrating sails display a potential 30 to 80% cut in emissions, primarily for new ships. Innovative concepts, like the startup AYRO, are exploring this path. This morning, we were privileged to welcome NSW Premier Chris Minns to Cicada Innovations for a landmark announcement. A substantial $275 million in grant funding will be allocated as part of the Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, marking a monumental step towards positioning NSW as the leading hub for clean technology development and production. This initiative is set to spark a transformation in our economy, with a keen focus on sectors like future energy systems and storage, like hydrogen, as well as transportation, agricultural technologies, and biomanufacturing. Premier Minns emphasised the initiative's commitment to strengthening local manufacturing in the renewables and clean-tech sectors, heralding a new era of local and secure job creation. The visit also spotlighted some of the visionary deep tech leaders working at Cicada, including: - Dr Jehan Kanga, CEO of Rux Energy, who are at the forefront of developing breakthrough advanced nano-porous materials for low-cost green hydrogen, paving the way for a sustainable energy future. - Heba Khamis, Co-founder & CEO of Contactile who's state-of-the-art tactile sensors and grippers are set to revolutionise robotic handling and manipulation, offering unprecedented precision for real-world applications. Accompanying the Premier were Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe and Minister for Domestic Manufacturing and Government Procurement Courtney Houssos, who together highlighted the government's support for innovation in the clean-tech sector.
