Will Truck OEMs insource the Electric Drivetrain Unit (EDU) in the near future? I am very curious to discuss this during the next couple of days at the #ACTexpo in Las Vegas. My personal view is a clear yes! Why? Because the facts are all leading in this direction: #Efficiency is and has always been of key relevance in trucking. It is all about total costs of ownership (TCO). Looking at a battery pack of 400 - 600 kWh, the efficiency of the EDU is of even higher importance than in most other mobility applications. Experts predict battery prices going down to 80€ / kWh. This still means that the battery for a long haul truck would cost 40.000 USD!!! This also means that only 1% efficiency improvement can be transferred into 400USD BOM cost savings or extended range. OEMs will only harvest this, if they take full ownership and optimize. Similar on how they do it today for the diesel fuel injection system. #Speed in Change management and will become a relevant factor to keep pace with technological developments. If an OEM wants to take a leading position, they need to find ways to be agile and fast. I personally doubt that this will work out with the established and rather "slow" change management procedures with the big system suppliers. But what is your view? If you are interested to discuss opportunities around EDU efficiency coming from #SiC or advanced multi level topologies, I am curious to discuss at our #Danfoss booth at ACT in Las Vegas. Danfoss is ready to offer support all along the value chain - from a complete EDU system down to the power module. #Semikrondanfoss #Danfosspowersolutions #Daimlertruck #Volvotruck #ACTexpo #Powermodules #Editron #Danfosseditron
