The age old WFH debate (well, mainly since March 2020) If you look across LinkedIn, the standard take home message I have seen is always- if you don't offer work from home you will miss out on the best people, and to a degree that is true. Lets say you have 2 recruiters, both after 40k, same experience, one bills 200k, and one bills 180k. On the face of it- easy decision, hire the 200k biller. However, the 200k biller is completely remote, whereas the 180k biller lives 5 minutes from the office and comes in daily. There is a junior recruiter in their first year also in the office daily. The amount they can pick up and learn from the habits of the office based recruiter, the subtle way they alleviate concerns from candidate and clients alike will vastly improve the learning curve for the J.C. We call this osmotic learning. Suddenly that same consultant goes from billing 60k, to a 100k. Year 2 130k. No direct training, both of the senior recruiters doing the same thing, however suddenly the net profit of the company increases. Now this is no sly on the WFH candidate- well worth their money and billing well. However sometimes the business needs outweigh the individual needs. The instant nature of being able to ask a question and getting an immediate response, rather than waiting for a reply to a Whatsapp or getting them on a Teams call. There will be companies who miss out on good candidates from a lack of flexibility, however there will also be great candidates missing out on great companies due to the lack of flexibility. Thoughts? #wfh #officeworking #recruiterlife

The increased desire to work remotely has made jobseeking harder. One of the first questions I often get asked when discussing roles with candidates is "Will they consider remote working, or at least hybrid?" It's not my place to suggest whether office based working is or isn't preferable to home based, though as a recruiter I see that it would certainly make jobseeking easier if applicants were prepared to be more office based. Only a quick browse at job adverts for remote working will demonstrate this as applicant numbers are consistently far higher, meaning greater competition. As we know, Covid had a significant influence on the shift to wanting to work from home. Many companies accommodated this in the immediate aftermath of lockdowns, though there are understandable reasons why some companies wish to move back to a more office based model. To increase your chances of securing a fulfilling next role consider what are you "must haves" and what are your "desirables" in a position. If you were actually quite happy working in the office pre-Covid then maybe considering this again would be worthwhile. Your application would have less competition and your application would be welcomed by employers.

Controversial opinion incoming... If you live in a major metropolitan area, you should not be fighting to WFH more. In fact, you should be getting into the office and having facetime with your team atleast 2-4 times per week. Be careful showing that your job can be done remotely, that is also showing that it can be given to someone who's not commanding a London/NY/SF salary... Alternatively, have a convo with your employer and get ahead of it! Set yourself to have a lower cost base so long as you can be in less often/rarely, and accept it may have trade-offs on pay increases. #remotework #remote #hiring #wfh

I've been doing some polls over these last few weeks about working from home/office/hybrid. Most recently I asked if your company required you to go back to the office full-time, would you stay with your company or look for a new work from home/hybrid job? I was surprised so see that more than half (53%) of people who responded said they would look for a new job if they were required to return to the office full-time. Employers & hiring managers or anyone who cares to comment, what are your thoughts on this? #returntotheoffice #workfromhome #hybridwork
