How I ended up in pricing ? I get asked that a lot. Year was 2008, I had not landed an internship job during my MBA program. No internship would mean writing a paper instead which was a bad trade off !! 2 days before end of term, General Motor recruiters land on campus because they were too late at their univ of choice. So technically they didn’t really want us !! Luck would have it all 3 internshipless students got into General Motors. We got assigned random teams ! I got assigned ‘parts pricing’. I had no idea what that meant, but who cared ! So I didn’t go to school for pricing. No one goes to school for pricing. None exists. We all stayed there for more than a year !! How did I stay in pricing after that is another funny story for next time. Career journeys can be funny !! Unfortunately, today I am writing to say I am an intern who had their offer rescinded. While the news is certainly disappointing, I still maintain a high level of respect for Tesla and all its employees. This experience has already taught me a lot both professionally and personally, and I hope to continue developing those skills over the course of the summer. If you were dreaming of spending your summer interning at #Tesla, you might want to hold off on packing your bags and booking your flights. #ElonMusk's electric car company has been rescinding summer internship offers just weeks before they were set to begin. So, instead of nurturing for its future growth, it has been unceremoniously tossed aside, leaving countless #college students scrambling for alternative summer plans. Of course, this internship fiasco is just the latest in a string of troubling signs that all is not well at Musk's car company. Between layoffs, key executives jumping ship, and a broader flatlining of EV sales, it seems like Tesla is more of a house on fire than a shining beacon of #innovation. Way to go, Elon! So, to all the college students out there who had their Tesla #internship dreams crushed, I say this: keep your heads up and keep pushing forward. There are plenty of other companies out there that would be lucky to have you, and who knows, maybe you'll even end up working for a CEO who actually cares about nurturing talent and building a stable, successful company.

As an international student that meant finances would be tight as well. Luckily, 2 days before end of term, General Motor recruiters landed on campus because they were too late at their univ of choice. So technically they didn’t really want me !! Luck would have it I got into General Motors on the last day of the term. We got assigned random teams ! I got assigned ‘parts pricing’. I had no idea what that meant, but who cared money was good atleast as a student. That was the first time I was going to make any $$’s. It was a special feeling. So yes I didn’t go to school for pricing. No one goes to school for pricing. None exists. (Technically 1 MBA exists) And since then I stayed within pricing. But I did increase my depth and breadth inside the discipline touching finance, marketing, sales, and supply chain. I have officially completed my two-months summer internship at Bridgestone. The journey was very educational and resource-focused. One of the most important things I learnt as an intern was to ask as many questions as possible to the team with whom I worked during the course. Among the few things I did discover and make note of are: 1) Networking:  I linked a group of experienced individuals who had been with the organization for over 7 years. In other words, their method of handling the issue and the learning curve was truly remarkable. 2) Asking inquiries and addressing doubts, no matter how insignificant: Questioning at each and every meeting over the course of two months helped me grasp few things outside my assigned project. 3) Presentation making: Bridgestone made me learn that their is a difference between university driven presentations and the corporate presentations. Hence, I learnt and figured out the difference between the two for my future endeavors. 4) Communication: It is not about speaking clearly, but expressing your thought with clarity is what matters. And, the corporate helped me in figuring out this wholeheartedly. In a nutshell, more than the output, the process helped me a lot in each and every aspect. #Bridgestone #Summerinternship2023
