Last week’s Handelsblatt #HBAISummit brought together Germany’s #AI trailblazers and large-scale practitioners in Munich for focusing on driving "#AI from vision to sustainable business value". Delighted to participate in a great panel discussion together with Dexin Luo Linde and Michael Pfeiffer Bosch, moderated by Dr. Philipp Hartmann on ❓How to pick the right AI use cases for optimizing successful scaling and maximising global value generation, with best practices from global multinationals? Our key panel questions and findings included: - 1. 🎯 For choosing the „Right“ use case portfolio, AI Portfolio management and Data product management are key - 2. 💻 Technology, #AIGovernance and ensuring current/preparing for upcoming Regulation: Data availability, technical and legal feasibility are priorities, along with - 3. ⚙️ ensuring the appropriate processes for #DataGovernance, integration of the business and stakeholders as well as #ResponsibleAI and #EthicalAI by default - 4. 🤝 Make, co-create, buy or partner?: What AI assets need to be developed in-house? What is the role of AI Research due to the rapid pace of progress? -> Ecosystem play is important, not everything can and should be be done in house.  - 5. 🚀 How to scale fast from PoC to product, internationally across a larger organisation? Our consensus was that whilst Generative AI is a game changer, we need to be fast in scaling from PoC to commercializable products/service. Therefore it‘s imperative to focus on #MLOps and #Automation along with AIEthics, to avoid scaling risks at pace. - 💡 In summary, insights highlighted the challenge in & need of achieving a structured AI use case portfolio, data governance and standardising infrastructure, building up high performance teams, enabling and training stakeholders in the entire Organisation and building appropriate ecosystem partnerships as crucial for scaling AI solutions to deliver business benefit at scale. ⭐️ Really enjoyed the great debate and multitude of engaged questions from and discussion with the audience. That’s a wrap for an incredible weekend with Customertimes at their Innovation Day in Miami followed with the Formula 1 Miami GP While heading back to Geneva after this US trip including a passage in New York, what can we share? First let’s start with the AI topic where it was amazing to be with different industries and data scientists and MLOps experts to dive in the possibilities of these emerging technologies. Definitely pharma is still perceived as a mountain with a sleeping giant in it, contemplating a world moving faster than they can anticipate. Real world example of AI usage from the automotive industry but also F1 itself showcase that this a culture, people and finally a data issue. Forcing ourselves to make it adoptable, transparent and scalable is hard as we are stretched by the shiny object but our 2 cents is to always think what’s concretely is done to impact people and businesses. Second, we do are worried when seeing commercial ops playing with tools without asking themselves are we capturing market shares? Sales? A new positionning? Instead there is excitement for generating videos, text and images. All cool right. Yes there is a model to create value for commercial operations but as we like to remind it, the destination is growth and behavior change, not deploying AI to check the box and please the board room. This doesn’t concern obviously startups or pure players but more regulated corporations. Finally seeing these tools progressing fast is a blessing. It means we can focus our energy on better and bigger topics while our decisions are crisper. Automation of work is a good thing. Automating decision is still for us a puzzle as regulators haven’t catched up the consequences of it yet. Not all decisions have consequences but a cascade of automated decisions might be something worth governing especially in unstructured environment. Anyway it is a large topic with multiples views but it is healthy to structure the conversation beyond the hype.
