I help simplifying your SAP Integration process from DevOps to PI to Integration Suite migrations

SAP Cloud Integration can move large files. This will get in trouble with Integration Architects. For the 20 years I have worked with SAP integration, I have always tried to be pragmatic. SAP Cloud Integration was not designed to move large files. It was designed to handle messages efficiently, and it is really good at it. But you will get into scenarios where you must move or process larger files. SAP Cloud Integration license is based on the number of messages you use. If you move a 100 Mb file it will cost 400 messages. If you do that for 30 days it will be 12.000 messages or about 8 EUR on the highest price. And 2 EUR if you use many messages. What will it cost to get a new middleware platform? What will it cost to operate it and teach people to use it. But it is much more expensive. Unless it is a widely used pattern. There are limits to file sizes that are allowed with Integration Suite. We have a case where a customer wanted to move a 1 GB file from Cloud to an on-premise disk. That is not something I would do, but it would be possible to find ways around it. I have not considered using Cloud Integration for large files because I fear the cost. But 8 EUR per month for an interface is a bargain. Ps. Do you consider license cost when defining the integration #SAP #SAPIntegration

Daniel Graversen, I use Boomi https://simplyvision.ch/services/boomi/design-and-build/ The price to connect to SAP is fixed at $$$ / tenant / month. not $$$$ / tenant / month. There is no extra price / message There is no limit in message size or message volume. Clear and predictable pricing that allows the business to grow. We have customers loading files > 1.5 GiB representing batched Invoice PDFs.

Expectations from IS are increasing day by day from customer's perspective. They want their money's worth and extract as much benefit as possible from the cloud platforms. When the requirement comes to make such a scenario for transfer of large files, I believe you can and should do it via CI instead of investing in a new MFT, but go via the MFT if already present. As we keep moving away from on premise and deeper into cloud technologies, we should try to push the boundaries and limitations and make the I Paas systems more robust and capable of handling any scenario. Finally, this is a question of cost and a decision to be made by the customer.

Agree I remember when I was in Saudi doing freelancing there the challenge was client wanted to move GBs of people data only via SAP PO with mapping involved and we achieved it anyhow by splitting the files ! But for an ipaas where billing is related by the number of messages processed it would be dumbest idea to move file via ipaas whether it’s CI or any other ipaas !

My 10 cents!! Maybe I am wrong!! This cost is on top of IS 4000 Eur per tenant per month cost. Secondly, what about queue blocking and processing time? How will you retrieve the data for monitoring using API from the Data Store for such large files? I suggest using Solace(AEM) for large files. (they have their own telemetry)

Nice problem. I would say go back to design process and make sure all participants have understood the requirements and possible scenarios - Do we need to transfer data all at once and why? IS can split data, IS can use modularity in flows etc. Okay, it maybe calculated as many messages but transferring over cloud - someone will pay.😂

Daniel Graversen...considering the current license cost of IS , and if we have privilage of using other option(I mean if we have other iPaaS in the org to beused ) - the scenario typlicall qualify for ETL based tools ...can be through Snap and others...but definitely we cant expect customer to invest on other platform for only few interfaces however by keeping in mind for further Best Practice Guidlines to be implemented - We should have ETL based tool for large files intg.

Apart from cost, Cloud Integration is having limitation based on memory size. It has maximum 16 GB. So considering number of interfaces and file size this should be designed. We faced this problem of sending 8 GB files and ended with failure and we had to move to ABAP.
