Since 2011, Feeding America conducts an annual comprehensive study, called Map the Meal Gap, to measure and analyze food insecurity across the nation by congressional district, state, and county. Yesterday, the newest Map the Meal Gap report was released to the public. Here are some key takeaways: 👉🏼963,130 individuals were estimated to be food insecure in Arizona in 2022. This is up from 751,690 in 2021. 👉🏼Food insecurity among Black or Latino individuals is higher than White individuals in more than 9 out of 10 counties. 👉🏼Nearly 50% of people facing hunger are unlikely to qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Plan (SNAP). We have work to do. With great data, we can do great things. Thank you for staying informed with us and doing what you can to help generously. Want to learn more? The release of Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap is always an occasion, but usually not one for celebration. The reality is that these estimates, created with national 2022 data, reflect the sunsetting of a lot of pandemic-era supports. We're not at all surprised by these numbers, even when the sector's service numbers also increase and organizations are functioning at max capacity with less-than-max resources. This is why Arizona Food Bank Network focuses so much on advocacy - lasting change that sweeps across the populace. Advocating for policy that's equitable, informed, and innovative...policy that's anti-racist, provides individuals with agency, and grabs at the root of the issue. I encourage you to explore the map yourself - https://lnkd.in/gbr3cwMx

Shared from Empower Missouri Approximately every five years, Congress reauthorizes the Farm Bill. Title IV, the “nutrition title,” authorizes several federal nutrition programs, including The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is our nation’s first line of defense against hunger. It is essential that this year’s Farm Bill protect and strengthen SNAP! Use the FRAC Action Network to quickly and easily contact your Member of Congress and urge them to support Farm Bill priorities that would protect and enhance SNAP. #FarmBillFriday #FoodJustice #HealthEquity

The farm bill can strengthen almost every federal nutrition program that helps ease the strain and stress of hunger in communities across the country. This chance only comes around once every five years—and this year, it's all hands on deck! Be an advocate, click the link in our bio to: • Tell lawmakers to pass a strong farm bill to help farmers and people facing hunger • Urge Congress to permanently expand The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) • Tell Congress to strengthen The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
