It’s been a while since I last went to a UX conference, but taking a chance to attend this year’s PUSH UX in Munich was worth the effort already at lunch break. ☄️Particularly liked Judd Antin’s keynote about his UX research reckoning which is the talk of town in the UX community these days. 🥜In a nutshell, the last 15 years not only were golden years for UX research (agreed), but also the era of cheap money. Hence, little focus on profitability but on growth in global markets. Now that this tide has turned, UX teams seem to suffer disproportionately from layoffs and budget cuts. 💡That means: we must stop seeing user centricity as a self-justifying reason to invest into UX, but focus more on its business value. Also, research should be either truly strategic, that is, skillfully combining secondary and primary qual and quant research, or yielding very tangible business results. The bloated multi-purpose qual user studies seem to be at the core of the problem. Debatable, yet with a lot of truth to it imo. #uxstrategy #uxroi #techchrisis #uxvalue #uxjobs
