Some things are worth passing down to the next generation. Other things need to be left behind. Like outdated, ill-fitting hand-me-down clothes, adult cancer therapies just don’t fit kids’ bodies. But while second-hand clothes might be vintage and cool, treatments should be tailored to fit the individual. Research is the key® to understanding the biology of childhood cancers. The more we understand about the children in treatment the better we can prepare them for the future instead of rehearsing the past. Help CKc fund tailored treatments for children in need of care that fits. As the May 2024 Pittsburgh Marathon approaches, it coincides with the second anniversary of my diagnosis with a horrid cancer called Carcinosarcoma mixed Mullerian Tumor. When I heard the words 'you have cancer,' it was devastating. Life suddenly halted, and the glass that was once half full seemed to drain to emptiness. I was trapped in two opposing time zones: one consumed by fear, where time stood still, and the other rushing towards an uncertain finish line I wasn't ready to cross. Cancer is a landscape of emotional dualities: despair battling hope, crudeness versus grace, ugliness confronting beauty. Despite the overwhelming challenges, I endeavored to start each day with a positive mindset and end it grateful for the beauty and joy still present in my life. Much of this resilience stemmed from the simple acts of kindness from family and friends, reminding me that I mattered and that we would navigate this journey together. Today, I stand before you as a survivor, grateful for the incredible support I received from UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and their Foundation. Their tireless efforts in raising awareness for underresourced women's cancers have been instrumental in my recovery. Please donate to the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation to support this vital cause. Together, we can ensure that others facing similar battles have access to the care and support they need to overcome cancer's challenges. Let's make a difference in women's lives by fighting this disease. https://lnkd.in/ezMmN3su

Week 3 update - One more week to go and counting. One thing I have learnt over the past 3 weeks is if you grow a mustache everyone will comment on it! However this isn't a bad thing because it opens up conversations to why I am doing it! TESTICULAR CANCER Testicular cancer isn’t very common. Globally, it makes up less than 1% of all male tumors. But, it’s the most common cancer in young men. Fortunately, testicular cancer is highly curable when it’s found and treated early. That’s why it’s so important to know what’s normal (and what’s not) for your nuts, and head to the doctor if something’s not quite right. Lots of people have already donated and that money goes towards supporting men's health. In 2022, the Movember community championed men’s health in 20 countries across the world. Through Growing Mo’s, Moving for men’s health, Hosting Mo-ments and Mo-ing Your Own Way, they raised £71.5 million. If you can please donate here. https://lnkd.in/eharnni9 #Movember #MensHealth #GrowAMo #SuicidePrevention #ProstateCancerAwareness #testicularcancer

As we reflect on the past decade of A Fresh Chapter, we are grateful for all who have joined our movement to revolutionize cancer support, helping to make a profound impact in the lives of countless individuals navigating the emotional fallout of cancer. Cancer presents a complex challenge that is not just physical, but mental and emotional as well. Yet, the psychological challenges of cancer are often under-addressed, leaving many to navigate feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and depression alone. A Fresh Chapter’s free, donor-supported programs help individuals build skills to cope with these challenges in a supportive community of their peers. Please consider making a gift to A Fresh Chapter this #GivingTuesday through the link below. With a fundraising goal of $50,000, we aim to serve hundreds of people in 2024. All gifts, no matter the size, make a significant difference. It’s more than just a contribution; it’s an investment in a world where every cancer patient, survivor, and caregiver feels seen, heard, and supported. Cancer changes lives, but together, we can too — and for the better. https://lnkd.in/g9m67_dH
