The synergy between culture and infrastructure facilitates the emergence of innovation leaders. I was asked to contribute to the topic: What do you do if your Higher Education institution fails to cultivate innovation leaders? This what I would say : 🌟 Beyond merely cultivating innovation leaders, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) face the challenge of cultivating an innovation mindset and developing leadership skills. This approach naturally nurtures the emergence of innovation leaders. At Université de Technologie de Troyes (UTT), we've initiated so called the MIND approach (Master, INnovate, Develop) since 2016. 🎓 UTT's educational model is centered on student empowerment. We provide them with the opportunity to craft their educational path gradually, fostering adaptability and excellence through bespoke training that balances scientific, technological, and humanistic disciplines. 🚀 Central to our approach are student-led projects, supported by both industry professionals and dedicated research professors. Additionally, the availability of the National Student-Entrepreneur Status since 2014 further strengthens individual and collective support networks, including the Pépite Champagne-Ardenne network and the YEC - Young Entrepreneur Center incubator run by Technopole de l'Aube en Champagne. 🏗️ However, fostering innovation goes beyond academia. It necessitates suitable infrastructure. Thus, UTT has established the #MINDLab, a collaborative coworking and co-learning space, and #MINDTech, a collaborative fab lab, right within our campus premises. These facilities complement our various research laboratories and machining centers. 🌈 Moreover, we recognize the importance of fostering a culture of innovation. Events like #TEDx, #MINDAwards, and the #FuckUpNight organized by the Genius UTT student association serve to promote and celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation within our institution. 🌍 Ultimately, it's the synergy between culture and infrastructure that facilitates the emergence of innovation leaders. These leaders, in turn, serve as role models inspiring subsequent generations. To amplify our impact, we're collaborating closely with our partners at the European University of Technology to create synergies across our nine European institutions, aiming to cultivate a new generation of European innovation leaders. I'm thrilled to share that I've recently concluded a remarkable journey — the Global Business Innovation Immersive Week with UC Berkeley Executive Education and Porto Business School. This deep dive into the heart of Silicon Valley's innovation and entrepreneurship was truly unforgettable. The program offered a comprehensive exploration of the driving forces behind today's tech landscape, including in-depth lectures on transformative topics such as culture as a driving force in any organization, Large Language Models, the Metaverse, and Generative AI. It also provided an insightful dive into Silicon Valley's distinctive approach to business, from its ecosystem dynamics to its celebrated culture of disruptive innovation. Renowned for its risk-taking culture and substantial capital, Silicon Valley stands as a beacon of innovation. This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the vibrant potential of Portugal's startup ecosystem. We are at the forefront, embracing emerging technologies and trends with passion and creativity. Despite differences in scale, capital availability, risk tolerance, and market sizes, the spirit of innovation unites us. Indeed, great ideas and innovation know no borders. I am also grateful for the camaraderie and insights shared with my talented classmates, whose diverse perspectives and entrepreneurial spirit enriched our collective learning experience. Gen Z highly values work-life balance, seeking flexibility and opportunities for personal growth. They are more in tune with their mental health, love to travel, care about the environment, and are early adopters of AI. In fact, 59% of them say they trust AI-generated information a lot/completely, compared to just 33% of baby boomers. Gen Z communicates differently and isn't afraid to speak up. They use technology to ignite social change like the sustainable fashion movement. They are pragmatic. As young adults from Generation Z, aged approximately between 10 and 25 in 2022, increasingly join the workforce in the coming years, it's crucial for employers to understand and address their unique requirements. Rather than merely engaging in superficial actions, it's vital for organizations to demonstrate genuine dedication and take concrete steps towards fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This genuine effort is key to retaining Gen Z employees over the long term. Companies that prioritize these efforts will gain a competitive edge in attracting and retaining emerging talent. 2023 brought diverse projects and opportunities for impact, from AI integration workshops to continued strategy and design thinking workshops, startup and scaleup coaching and innovation program development and support in geographies including Switzerland, Mexico, Canada and the US. One highlight was meeting with spending time Mark T. Nelson in Zurich to follow-up on a number of common interests. I am deeply grateful for his support to one of the scaleups I coach, #Veezoo: Marcos Monteiro and the team. 🎯 Dr. Rocío Robinson-Wiedemann, collaborating with you is always wonderful, whether running innovation workshops for the first Swiss and Mexican startup cohort in AIT program in Mexico, design sprint programs at the University of St Gallen, or supporting other AIT cohorts and strategic AIT retreat to focus on the opportunities and integration opportunities of diverse programs in Swiss innovation. 👍 Projects I support through business consulting, coaching and training range from health to materials to sensors and DeepTech and AI, but the goal is always the same - expediting the commercialization of transformational technologies. When driving innovation programs, executive and group coaching and training, the goal is very similar - expediting growth of individuals bringing high positive impact to the world around us. In training ICF PCC level coaches for Mental Health Coaching certification, the goal is to enable them to go deeper in enabling leaders achieve maximum impact 👏 Thank you to all my corporate, investment, academic, government, startup and scaleup clients this year for an opportunity to help you optimize your growth. Building the Ecosystem of the Future At Tech Leadership Lab, our vision is ambitious - to build a global ecosystem of stakeholders from all sectors working together towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through our events, online content and collaboration tools, we are taking action to unite this ecosystem and help humanity progress to a Type 1 civilization. This week, we had in-depth discussions on how to further develop this ecosystem into a strong, healthy, and fluid living organism. We explored innovative concepts like biomimicry, transition engineering, artificial intelligence, mental health, strategic foresight tools, and new technologies that could help accelerate progress. Most importantly, we focused on cultivating the right leadership and partnerships to guide this ecosystem with a common global story and shared goals.
