📢 NEW BRIEFING About 7 million EU citizens travel or live outside the EU in places where their Member State does not have an embassy or consulate. In case of need, unrepresented EU citizens can turn to the representation of another Member State for help. This is the raison d'être of the consular protection directive. But in a world of increasing crises, the task of responding to stranded Europeans has become more complicated, necessitating a revision of the directive. In the European Parliamentary Research Service briefing below, we explain (with Marie-Astrid H.) how this directive could be amended.
