Even brilliant thought leaders and beloved celebrities struggle to show up authentically online. It's a lesson I've learned working with amazingly talented people over the last several years that I sometimes still struggle to believe today. As someone who has long subscribed to the belief "fake it 'til you make it," it seems unfathomable that successful people I admire still didn’t know how to show up as themselves online.    Nonetheless, there's a similar refrain I hear all the time: “I don’t want to say the wrong thing.”  “I don’t want to come across as bragging.” “I don’t want people to think I don’t know what I’m doing.” These are people, usually women, with integrity, courage, and worthwhile thoughts to share. Yet they’re experiencing the exact same doubt I feel every time I put together my thoughts to post on the internet. Now, when the imposter syndrome trickles in and I obsess over every little word in a post, I think about these amazing people and their bravery at saying what's in their hearts and on their minds. In those moments when you feel that way, remind yourself that even the brightest influencers out there feel cringe-y sometimes. Including Taylor Swift. That’s because we all hold on to our heroes, the role models who’ve shaped us. But experience has taught me that it's pointless to resist change. Instead, I embrace it. I keep lessons from mentors and icons I've followed, eyes on the future for inspiration. So, what ties today’s LinkedIn thought leaders to mumble rappers? - Both disrupt traditional norms - Both write hooks and more hooks - Both talk about generating more money - Both find success despite generational divides - Both rely on repetition to make their message stick - Both can be polarizing, with equally passionate fans and detractors - Both utilize digital platforms to build their brands and engage audiences These similarities highlight a cultural shift. Hello :) I wanted to try and explain another view point on #socialmedia I have been noticing more and more award #groups or #organizations as of late. It makes me scratch my head because these awards are given to companies that I don't think are fitting For example.. I recently learned of a company that got an excellence in social media award. They seemed to have good goals or ideas. I replied to 2 or 3 of their posts and never received a response. If you are of social media excellence, then you would be more than capable of responding to an inquiry I hate using this explanation but for the purposes of taking this further.. If you are that good at social media you would also recognize that no matter how big or small a #connection may seem to you.. Everyone could be a friend or a good contact Now that is just the social media side. I want to pick apart one other thing here. They claim to be #bodypositive or have a lot of #bodypositivity for the #modeling world. That is cool because there are women who struggle with that. I see it with my #contentcreator clients. It pains me to see them go through that. I wish I could help Anyways.. With how much visibility they have on social media, they could easily start #communitybuilding .. They could start a Discord or something where #modelingagency could start talking to eachother about how to improve their industry. Or just provide a safe space for #people to talk That to me is true excellence. Anyone can run a social media campaign but building upon the #success and maintaining it is in my eyes the hardest thing to do

Trust is the currency of the digital age, yet it's becoming increasingly scarce. Building trust online is enveloped in myths of persuasive tactics and cunning marketing strategies. However, the inconvenient truth lies elsewhere: It's less about persuasion and more about being blatantly honest. In a world full of snakes, authenticity wins every time. The digital audience has developed a keen sense for authenticity; they can sniff out insincerity from miles away. This discerning audience demands more than just surface-level engagement. They seek real, unfiltered honesty. Consider the brands and influencers who have built a loyal following. Their strategy? Transparency. They share not just their triumphs but also their trials, offering a full spectrum of their experiences. This approach fosters a deeper connection, transforming passive observers into active, engaged communities. But here's the thing: being blatantly honest is not without its challenges. It requires vulnerability, a trait often perceived as a weakness in the cutthroat digital age. Yet, it's this very vulnerability that bonds brands and individuals to their audience, setting them apart in a sea of sameness. So, how do we navigate this paradigm shift? Start by peeling back the layers. Share your journey, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Let your audience in. Remember, in the digital world, trust is not a given; it's earned, one honest interaction at a time.

The best routine for you is A. The one you can actually stick to (there's no point in having a routine if you never stick to it) B. The one that allows you to show up as your best self to all the things you need to do in a day No one can tell you what this routine is, or what time it should start. Furthermore, it'll likely change often! My routine in the summer is different from my routine in the winter. Play around with it. See what works best for you. And always be open to changing things up.

I love and agree with every word of this. I’m a cross between Nabokov and Strauss. My peak hours are typically 11–4. I try to limit meetings to 10–12 and 4:30–6. And if I don’t have any morning meetings, I’ll sit down at my desk around 11 and work for a few hours straight before taking a late lunch. I’ll psych myself up for the odd 8 AM coffee meeting, especially with construction and education clients who are early birds almost across the board. But otherwise, please for the love of all that’s good and holy do not talk to me before 10 AM. I might work a few hours on Saturdays here and there, but I never ever work on Sundays. I’ll put in the occasional 9–11+ hour day, but most days I work 5–6 hours. There are also days after big presentations, workshops or travel when I only work 3 or 4 hours. Then again… what most people call walking, biking, driving, showering, brushing my teeth, staring out of windows and keeping the plumbing in battle-readiness, I call working. I’m constantly thinking and ideas come to me at strange times. I never remember my dreams, but I wouldn’t be surprised if many of them are technicolor problem-solving adventures. The typical 8 to 10–hour day makes sense for jobs that primarily require physical labor, because a relatively fit body can work for longer stretches of time. And the work itself, especially when combined with ample vitamin D from the sun, can alleviate stress and boost endorphins. Cerebral, creative or relational work, on the other hand, can quickly exhaust our cognitive and emotional neural networks, depleting the natural feel-good chemicals that make us feel sharp and buoyant. In order to put in even a moderately passable workday, mental and interpersonal workers need to take frequent breaks. In other words: after 20 years in my field and working alongside scores of other creatives, I can say that the post-industrial, 9–5+, 40-hour+ week simply does not work for creative professionals. This is a prime reason there is so much burnout and mental anguish in my industry. It’s also why no one is honest on their timesheets – assuming they still have to suffer through such an antiquated and irrelevant practice. For others whose work is primarily mental, relational and/or creative, how about you? What rhythms have proven to be most effective? And what have you found particularly destructive in the past?

Avoid comments or actions that could cast a shadow over your or affiliated brands. 3️⃣ Objective Engagement: Venturing into new discussions? Maintain neutrality to build trust with your audience. Align with your brand's stance to foster a reliable image. 4️⃣ Engage with Navigate Conflicts Wisely: The online world is fraught with potential conflicts. Learn to identify when engagement might detract from your brand, and practice resilience. If necessary, seek constructive ways to defend your position, ensuring it aligns with your brand values. 5️⃣ Purge and Purify: Regularly review your past online activities. Removing content that doesn't align with your brand's image or values can prevent future controversies. 6️⃣ Positive Engagements: Balance is crucial in humour. Engage with your audience in a manner that uplifts rather than undermines. 7️⃣ Acknowledge Support: Recognise and uplift your community's key members and their achievements. Staying connected with your supporters ensures your content remains relevant and impactful. 8️⃣ Own Your Mistakes: In the face of adversity, taking responsibility early can help manage the narrative, preserving your integrity and authenticity.
