It's great to witness digital innovation of procurement in more and more firms. This innovation is crucial to maintain and improve procurement's contribution to firm success. One prime example of innovation in procurement is ALTANA AG. Altana was was the 2023 ISM Award (presented by SAP and Roland Berger) in the Business Network category for the successful implementation an AI-powered graph platform called EMPOWER. EMPOWER is a graph platform for sustainable knowledge engineering within ALTANA's global procurement network. The platform unifies existing data sets such as master data, meta data, as well as market, supplier and logistics data, and it also visualizes data sets. Just finished watching the replay of this webinar with Marc Martínez Cibeira of Danone and SAP's Anna Linden. A highly recommended watch as they discuss the transformational power of SAP IBP (for demand), specifically gradient boosting, on forecasting accuracy. Some of my key takeaways: Marc Martinez shares, "Our forecast proposals are 40 times faster than before with the manual process. AI helped us increase forecast accuracy and drastically reduce waste by 35% in some regions. It has helped us work faster, and do more than before." Marc also emphasized the importance of change management, disposing of the 'black box' concept and correctly understanding AI's role - as an assistive tool, not a replacement. "AI is better at certain things. It's not about replacing the planner, but getting out the most of both." Anna stressed the necessity of quality data, clear goals, automation, and intelligent outcomes.
