This week we launch the #RAREsummit23 Tech Innovation Challenge competition in collaboration with Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network) Are you a tech or digital health company? Do you have a great digital solution or idea that could help relieve some of the everyday challenges faced by those living with rare conditions? We're bringing a live innovation challenge pitching session to RAREsummit23, inviting the audience to cast their vote and be the final judges. You have until the 4 September to get involved! Utilising the results of a survey across the rare disease community and the government’s latest policy publications, we’ve identified the three significant healthcare challenges below. Now we need your help to find solutions. Submissions will be judged and scored by an expert panel, including patient representatives, and the top five get to pitch live at RAREsummit on 12 October 2023. The overall winner will receive tailored support from Eastern AHSN and CamRARE to help develop the innovation commercially and/or into the healthcare system. The winners of the RAREsummit21 Innovation challenge: rare diseases were Medwise AI - a web app aiding clinical decision-making by using AI-powered search across all relevant UK guidelines in a simple question and answer format to provide concise answers to clinical questions. Eastern AHSN is now enabling Medwise to run a two-year-long pilot, currently focussed on long-covid with an ICS in the East of England, and was able to fund an evaluation by an independent evaluator. We extend our sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Arjen Brussaard, Vice Dean Valorisation of Research, Dr. Michiel Winter, MD, PhD, Cardiologist and Dr. Azam Nurmohamed, MD, PhD, Medical Specialist, your insights were invaluable! A special thank you to Martijn De Boer, Senior Manager Knowledge & Innovation at amsterdam inbusiness, for facilitating this insightful meeting.
