Talk about a tough choice. Of all thousands of advances our British Heart Foundation scientists make every single year selecting just one of them to become our ‘Research Story of the Year’ is the toughest of tasks - so I'm asking you to help us choose. You only need 60 seconds to vote for one of three incredible BHF funded scientists turning science fiction into reality to make a difference for patients, right now, to win a Heart Hero Award this year. From a ‘heart plaster’ to stop children needing repeat heart surgeries, a superhuman AI heart tool for the NHS, and correcting DNA mistakes that can cause deadly inherited heart diseases - each of them life are inspirational and life changing. Today is the day! A day 100 years in the making. A day filled with everything we have put into it: hard work, sweat, tears, determination, passion and heart. It is a day of joy. A day to celebrate science and research, volunteers and survivors. A day to celebrate all people everywhere whose lives we improve. A day to celebrate every member of the American Heart Association family. Today marks 100 years since the founding of the American Heart Association on June 10, 1924. CPR. Pacemakers. Heart transplants. Stents. Clot-busting drugs. Congenital heart defect repairs. Treatment. Prevention. Guidelines. Precision Medicine. Our organization has made all of them possible, and in doing so, we’ve cut cardiovascular mortality in half. Our Second Century will be a time of incredible breakthroughs, many unimaginable today, guided by our vision of “advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.” And we can’t wait to see where we’ll go and who we’ll be, 100 years from now.

Extremely powerful message for how to live your life. A must watch interview.
While Anthony's transplant lasted almost twice as long as predicted, he couldn't help but feel mad and disappointed when it failed. Still, he's not letting it keep him down. https://bit.ly/459UfV1

Walk the Talk: Current Evidence for Walking Recovery After Stroke, Future Pathways and a Mission for Research and Clinical Practice It was a pleasure presenting our work together with George Fulk, Sarah Moore and Natalie Fini (and thinking about Pierce Boyne) at a symposium at the World Congress of Neurorehabilitation in Vancouver 22-25 May. We presented key elements from our topical review published in #Stroke: https://lnkd.in/er6-P7Wr Achieving safe, independent, and efficient walking is a top priority for stroke survivors to enable quality of life and future health. Our narrative review explores the state of the science in walking recovery after stroke and potential for development. The importance of targeting walking capacity and performance is explored in relation to individual stroke survivor gait recovery, applying a common language, measurement, classification, prediction, current and future intervention development, and health care delivery. Findings are summarized in a model of current and future stroke walking recovery research and a mission statement is set for researchers and clinicians to drive the field forward to improve the lives of stroke survivors and their carers.

No one understands the patient experience better than families who have walked that road themselves. In December 2023, we launched the Patient and Family Seal of Collaboration, a program to identify and celebrate projects that incorporate direct input from families. In the first 6 months, we’ve already awarded the Seal of Collaboration to 8 projects – and there are more in the works! These include: • A Family Viewing Screen to see your spot in line for walk-in lab or radiology services. 🖥️ • A Roadmap to Discharge for heart patients. 🗺️ • A Rare Disease Research Agenda to prioritize projects that matter to families of kids with genetic conditions. 🧬 Learn more or share your idea here: https://cmkc.link/3VR5Bff

Innovative Trauma Care Inc. (iTClamp) #itclamp was designed to be easily applied for hemorrhage control of the scalp, neck and other compressible extremity wounds. The face, head and neck are tricky, and deceptively simple and can cause first responders to spend an unnecessary amount of time on scene. Anything that can be done to speed up transport to bright lights and cold steel is ideal....Especially TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING.

Midface trauma is tricky to manage in an austere pre hospital setting. To add to their existing tools at Edale Mountain Rescue Team , we ran a facial trauma workshop geared towards primary management till Medevac can take place . Thanks to Louise Mortimer we could introduce the team to the use of Rapid Rhino 900 and 550 with hands on modules supervised by Ben Cooper , myself & @Mike cole ( All World Extreme Medicine faculty)

Dignity Health - Ca North State Market President and President Mercy Medical Center Mt Shasta and St Elizabeth Community Hospital
Dignity Health North State Hospitals, including Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospitals, serve as Primary Stroke Centers. Mercy Medical Center Redding holds the distinction as an Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center, accredited by The Joint Commission. It stands as the sole thrombectomy-capable medical facility north of Sacramento in California. Primary stroke centers are equipped with specialized teams of healthcare professionals who are trained to recognize and respond to stroke emergencies promptly. This rapid response is critical because every minute counts in the treatment of stroke, where timely intervention can minimize brain damage and improve outcomes. Let's strive to carry the momentum of National Stroke Awareness Month forward, not just in May, but year-round. By quickly recognizing the signs and promoting healthy lifestyles, we can make a lasting impact in preventing and treating strokes and ensure a future where strokes are not just survivable, but preventable.
