Did you know that it takes only 12 minutes of kindness a day to be happy? 🌍 🤝 🌼 This is what emerged from a social experiment conducted in the United States in 2019 and we take the opportunity of the #WorldKindnessDay to remember it to all of us and to celebrate it all over the world. World Kindness Day was introduced in 1998 by #TheWorldKindnessMovement founded in Tokyo, a coalition of nations’ kindness NGOs. The mission of this day is to inspire individuals towards greater kindness and to connect nations to create a kinder world. Kindness is courtesy and good manners, but above all means being selfless, generous and helpful to others: it makes everyone better, which is why it should be celebrated every day.

On World Humanitarian Day, we come together to recognize and celebrate the incredible and selfless efforts of those who dedicate their lives to providing aid and support to those in need. We also recognize the collective efforts of organizations, volunteers and communities who collaborate to make a positive impact in the lives of others. This years theme “NO MATTER WHAT” encourages us to stand up against injustice and inequality, it encourages us to actively engage with the needs of others, recognizing that our shared humanity is what connects us all. Together we can make a difference, NO MATTER WHAT obstacles lie in our path. #worldhumanitarianday #nomatterwhat #humanitarian #activism

THE POWER OF SOLIDARITY Currently, there is a lot of talk about the power of empathy. It is, in fact, important for our society. Practicing solidarity is having empathy to the core. Thus, the person or community feels compelled to act in situations of calamity, be it social, political or environmental. Therefore, it is important that solidarity is stimulated in people from an early age. After all, they can become adults who are more aware of their role in society. Ways to exercise solidarity in practice Remember that we are all equal Listen to what the other person has to say Take a closer look Share your gift Be genuine Your support can come in a variety of ways, "like" our posts, make a small "comment" on our posts, in addition to being able to "share" our message on your social network, this helps a lot to improve and expand our engagement. We don't have enough resources like other large organizations but that's no reason to stop trying. Any help makes a difference! Be the change the world needs! "For a world without borders" by. 🌟 A Double Celebration 🌟 #diversity isn't just a word; it's a powerful force that enriches our lives in countless ways. Today, we are thrilled to share two meaningful chapters of our journey, both deeply rooted in the spirit of diversity. Firstly, we are sharing our gratitude for Afrikire Festival in #Geneva for inviting us in celebrating the beauty of diversity, building bridges across divides, and sharing the wisdom nestled within African stories. In the true spirit of #Ubuntu, we extend a heartfelt gratitude to @rianatoutou @riana.music your voice holds a special place in this enriching dialogue. But that's not all! 🚀 At Bokobokids, where I proudly serve as a bridge for children to flourish with a great sense of self governance and ownership of their sovereignty. Now, t's YOUR chance to take center stage and share your insights on how African stories can unify us all. We've just embarked on a remarkable journey titled "Stories of Diversity." 🌍📖 It's more than just a project; it's a celebration of the myriad stories that make our world beautifully diverse. Through these stories, we aim to build bridges, foster understanding, and embrace the uniqueness of every individual. We're exploring a simple yet profound question: How did hearing African stories in your early childhood shape you, and how do these narratives promote inclusivity today? Your voice is essential in this dialogue. This is how you can participate: Share a photo of yourself with your loved ones – your mother, grandmother, or child – ●Add a personal story about how African stories have impacted your life today. ●Send it at teambokobokids@gmail.com ●Use hastaghs : #storiesofdiversity #BKBStoriesofDiversity If you'd like, share this within your network, and consider sharing your own stories with us. We are excited about your story and welcome you to reach out anytime. Read about this news on our website, and please feel free to share your thoughts by leaving a comment. https://lnkd.in/ervGgPV2 Let's celebrate diversity together and create meaningful connections! 🤝💫 #DiversityInAction #BKBStoriesOfDiversity #CelebrateDiversity #AfricanNarratives #InclusionMatters #PreserveAncestralWisdom

Today on #IndigenousPeoplesDay, I wanted to touch upon what it means to be an #Ally to Indigenous People and Indigenous Communities. Being a genuine ally involves a lot of self-reflection, education and listening. It means knowing we’re often coming into this space from a position of power and privilege. Privilege that we’ve gained through unjust systems that marginalise the groups we seek to ally with. It’s not enough to show up in solidarity and speak out against the unjust system, we have to do what is within our power to dismantle the system and differentiate ourselves from the opponents of these groups. We have to change our own behaviours and be mindful that we are not contributing to keeping that system going. When working with Indigenous communities there isn’t one way to be an ally – because every community and individual is different. Every relationship you build needs a different approach. But here are some suggestions that will help you to get started. 1. Listen to and follow the community: Find out who the traditional owners and Elders are of the land you are on. Build strong relationships within the community and make sure everything is First Nations-led. 2. Centre the stories around community - A big part of your involvement is to amplify the voices of First Nations communities, don’t make it about yourself. 3. Learn the historical and cultural context - Knowing the history and being culturally competent is vital. The issues the community face come from hundreds of years of ongoing trauma and discrimination. It is not the responsibility of the community to educate you. 4. Never show up empty-handed - Showing up in support is great but offer to lend a hand as well. Use your labour, resources and skills to help out. 5. Always seek consent and permission - Consent is a continuous process, not a one-time request. Seek permission before taking part in community events, particularly around cultural and spiritual events. 6. Be responsible for yourself - Be aware of what resources you’re taking away from communities through your presence. Ensure you’ve given back to the community more than you’ve taken away. 7. Know when to step back - Be aware of what space you are taking up. Always remember that you are there as a guest in a supportive role. 8. Saviours are not needed, solidarity is - Solidarity is only meaningful if it is substantive and not merely performative. This means showing up to support the community with your presence alone should be the baseline, not the end game. 9. Be mindful of others’ time and energy - Indigenous people often have to be advocates on a wide range of issues that affect them and their community first-hand. They don’t have the choice to switch off from being involved and can be spread thin in many directions. 10. Do no harm to the community - The community should be better off, or the same, because of your presence, not worse. #Ally #Allyship

December 20th: International Human Solidarity Day—a celebration of unity amidst diversity. This day serves as a global call to action, reminding governments to honour their commitments to international agreements and encouraging public awareness about the vital importance of solidarity. It's more than a concept; it's a beacon guiding us to bridge gaps and support one another globally. Solidarity empowers us to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, especially eradicating poverty, sparking new initiatives, and fostering collective action. Let's make this day a catalyst for kindness, inclusivity, and cooperation. By embracing diversity, we pave the way for a fairer, more compassionate world. #UnityInDiversity #GlobalCitizenship

Once upon a time I was carrying two heavy bags and walking down the road then this young handsome guy walked up to me and said where are you going to? let me help you. Without waiting for a reply he took the heaviest bag from me and started walking down. indeed it was a relief but in my mind I was like what is this oga upto? what is he going to ask for after this? my mind was just wandering until I got to where I was going Lo and behold he dropped the bags and after thanking him, he bade me farewell and went on his way without requesting for anything. I was dumbfounded and amazed at that kind gesture from a young man without demanding anything in return and I felt indebted that I also see myself offering such little help to people around me Reflecting on that singular act I have come to understand that kindness is more than being nice, it is a movement. Kindness is a chain reaction. It’s a wave that keeps rolling, and all it needs is one person to start it. One small kind act can cause a ripple effect that impacts an entire community. If we are all focused on being kind, we are creating a movement of change. You know that famous "be the change you wish to see in the world" quote? That quote isn't just about change, and it isn't only about one person being able to change their world. It's bigger; it about a movement that can be started from one person acting with intension Now be kind and change the world around you. Has someone ever done something kind to you and all you wanted to do after was pay it forward? You can share with me in the comment section the last act of kindness you showed or received and how it made you feel? #GlobalGoal 16 : Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies. Goal 16 is about promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. People everywhere should be free of fear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their lives whatever their ethnicity, faith or sexual orientation. WHAT CAN WE DO? Exercise your rights to hold your elected officials to account, to freedom of information and share your opinion with your elected representatives. Promote inclusion and respect towards people of different ethnic origins, religions, gender, sexual orientations or different opinions. #GCLS is proudly financed by the Mott Foundation and implemented by the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland (Akademia Rozwoju Filantropii w Polsce).
