Assessing and understanding Scope 3 emissions will be necessary if companies are to address the physical, financial, and regulatory risks inherent in their value chains. As businesses look to reduce these risks and recognise the opportunities of decarbonisation, rigorous data collection and strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will be critical. To help businesses identify tools and develop best practice in these areas, we have recently launched a four-part ‘Collecting Scope 3 Emissions Data’ webinar series. Developing a robust baseline of Scope 3 emissions is a key starting point for setting targets and reducing emissions. However, the ability to collect both upstream and downstream emissions data is often a barrier to establishing credible baselines. Our ‘Collecting Scope 3 Data’ webinar series provides an overview of the strategies and tools that businesses can utilise to gather data throughout their value chain, whilst engaging employees throughout the process. Most #decarbonisation strategies focus solely on companies addressing Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which overlooks and undervalues significant segments of the complex carbon-reduction landscape. Our equity affiliate Jennison Associates sees considerable value in adding the abundant but less-visible #Scope4 ‘avoided’ emissions to the evolving opportunity set and has developed a blueprint for quantifying them. Right on. Removal technologies are critically needed to keep average global temperature rise below 1.5 C. There is no escape from scaling up the removal technologies to around 10 gigatons ton/year. Industrial countries need to start removing part of what they have added to atmosphere over 150 years. A 10% of the total added (250 out of 2500 gigatons) is a good initial target. The costs are high but of the same order of magnitude to investments needed to triple Renewable over next 25 years. Renewable alone will not get us there. We need deployment of removal at 10 gigatons/ year scale in parallel

Delighted to be quoted in the new Reuters article on #CarbonRemovals: “If we don't start scaling up removals now, and developing the necessary incentives, physical infrastructure and carbon accounting practices, we won’t have removals available at scale when needed. So, achieving those net zero targets will be very difficult if we don't get our act together now.” https://lnkd.in/djTw2Xw9 Thank you Angeli Mehta PhD for digging into this topic. #carbonremoval #cdr
