Most people associate seaweed with something you eat. In fact, it's greatest potential as a sustainable resource for the planet is in applications like CO2 removal, like this group here is doing. #seaweed #blueeconomy #seagreeninsights

Oceans can help remove CO2 from the atmosphere through different pathways: micro- and macro-algae farming, ocean alkalinity enhancement, blue carbon restoration, etc. Our colleagues in SINTEF Ocean have built a seaweed farm on the coast of Trøndelag (Norway) to test large-scale kelp cultivation in real conditions. This infrastructure will be used in the NCS C+ project (https://lnkd.in/dmwYjWaB), to understand the potential of algae-based bioCCS to deliver negative emissions and at what cost. 💡 The CORALIS EU project's WP6 is aiming to demonstrate the technical and business aspects of industrial symbiosis between parties such as the #anchorindustry, an enabling intermediary (WA3RM), #financiers and the #localcommunity. This includes designing a modular system to facilitate easy expansion, ensuring the availability of necessary infrastructure and resources, developing scalable #microalgae #cultivation management strategies, implementing automation and control systems, conducting cost analysis, and addressing regulatory considerations. Additionally, #investing in research and development activities can help optimize the performance of a larger-scale HRAP. By carefully considering these factors, successful scalability can be achieved, resulting in improved efficiency, productivity, and #carbon #offset potential.

Nuwen has been working with seaweed harvesters for many years. 🌿 The seaweed is harvested around our industrial site on the foreshore (the part of the coast between the highest and lowest tides), at low tide. The seaweed harvesters have an authorization issued by maritime affairs and respect good harvesting practices according to the codes and practices for the preservation of biomass. 🌊 Depending on needs, they therefore deliver quantities of fresh algae to our production site. 🌿 This activity is periodic and the harvest is dependent on the times and tidal coefficients. 🌊 #Sustainability #SeaweedHarvesting #Seaweed #goémoniers #algae
