Enhanced rock weathering is a carbon removal process that speeds up the natural weathering of alkaline materials, releasing cations that capture and convert CO₂ into stable, durable compounds.
The bottleneck to deployment at climate relevant scales is the challenge of accurately measuring and verifying this process in field.
We're very excited to see the methodologies of EW suppliers advance rapidly and field trials coming back with high quality data allowing for verified, permanent CDR! (after rigorous uncertainty discounting - see https://lnkd.in/gPk2sqHE) 🚀

Less hype, more science!
Research published in Science Journal compared the trade in carbon credits to a form of “lemons market,” where the fuzzy and qualitative nature of practices underlying carbon offsets has resulted in sellers flooding the market with poor products and overblown claims.
But companies are working on how to fix this problem!
Learn how Andes is bringing more trust and transparency to the carbon market!

"There is a need for a more functional new market based around openness in data collection, and scientifically verified measurements"
Thank you Forbes for featuring Andes as a climate tech startup that is "taking extra steps to try and ensure greater transparency, particularly when it comes to the complex field of nature-based removals"

Even though we can't see carbon we can still measure it and gain certainty that it is or isn't being removed.
Sylvera builds software that independently and accurately automates the evaluation of carbon projects that capture, remove, or avoid emissions, so we can drive more urgent financing to effective climate solutions.
Great to see those efforts recognized today by the Financial Times and be named as one of their 2023 Tech Champions.
🌎 We are excited to announce a partnership with Chloris Geospatial as our exclusive provider of digital monitoring, reporting and verification (dMRV) of forest carbon data for our new forest carbon standard. Innovative technology like this is pivotal in our quest to help end deforestation and biodiversity loss.
This partnership will allow projects verified with Equitable Earth to report more accurately than ever before.
Chloris uses advanced scientific techniques to process new datasets from spaceborn instruments to measure above-ground biomass to capture carbon stock change with efficiency, transparency and high accuracy.
“Partnering with Chloris marks a significant milestone for Equitable Earth as we pursue an innovative new approach to forest carbon standards,” said Beto Borges, Chair of the Equitable Earth Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities Advisory Group.
“Our commitment is to serve the voluntary carbon market holistically, ensuring that our efforts not only meet scientific accuracy and independence but also benefit local communities. Chloris's dedication to independent, high-quality carbon mapping is crucial for achieving these goals.”

8 Rivers’ Calcite and Origen Carbon Solutions announce joint project in the UK, selection by Frontier
Exciting news from the frontlines of climate action!
8 Rivers’ Calcite and Origen Carbon Solutions are teaming up in the UK for a groundbreaking project, selected by Frontier.
The collaboration has secured a substantial $1.5 million from Stripe Climate’s Spring 2022 Carbon Removal Purchase cycle.
Their mission?
To pull a whopping thousand tons of CO2 per year directly from the air!
This initiative isn't just making waves; it's earning accolades.
The project was recently chosen for a Frontier carbon removal purchase, backed by major industry players.
Ben Turner, CEO at Origen, emphasized the importance of this partnership, saying, “To receive this endorsement from Stripe Climate for the work we’re doing with 8 Rivers shows what can be achieved when you collaborate for good.”
Moreover, 8 Rivers' Calcite technology was honored as a milestone winner of the XPRIZE Carbon Removal funded by The Musk Foundation.
Origen's ZerCaL zero-carbon lime manufacturing process is a game-changer, boasting near-perfect CO₂ separation efficiency.
Pair that with 8 Rivers' Calcite Carbon Removal technology, and you've got a potent duo ready to tackle atmospheric carbon.
Cam Hosie, CEO at 8 Rivers, shared his enthusiasm: “Scalable, economic, and rapidly deployable direct air capture is vital to help achieve our collective Net Zero goals.”
Nan Ransohoff of Frontier added, “Carbon removal is essential to achieving our climate goals, and we’re way behind schedule.
But scalable, low-cost technologies like Calcite-Origen are grounds for optimism.”

The Drop was as hot as Volcano this year! 300 climate tech founders and 450 VCs together. You could feel the heat! I'm looking forward to working on a deep level with all the amazing founders out there, like
Arbonics + Kristjan Lepik doing the best carbon removal play in Europe! Neutral + Farouq Ghandour building trading infrastructure.
Opna (Formerly SALT) + Shilpika (Shilps) Gautam are bringing forward financing to the space!
Atem + Alexandre Peschel are building carbon trading API-s.
Ivy Protocol+ Niklas Terrahe solving primary financing.
Brineworks + Gudfinnur Sveinsson creates low-carbon raw materials and removes massive amounts of atmospheric CO2 by utilizing desalination brine.
Senken + Adrian Wons gives the largest selection of climate assets for transparent climate actions and finance.
Circonomit + Dana Aleff Linking financial forecasting with environmental impact optimization.
You could really feel the monumental shift coming in at the market. Is Climate the next big thing?
Thank you, Pale blue dot for organizing The Drop!
Completely agree. The hyper focus on sequestration as the primary ecosystem service of value to the West, more than likely 'extracted' from countries and ecosystems where adaptation potential of these ecosystems is probably more paramount, is probably a fantastic example of Goodhart's law - a great maxim I learnt about ages ago.
Basically: "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure." The blinders that come on when we're chasing down a target that is as systemically complex as carbon can often do more harm than good - see human rights and other violations from skewed carbon credit schemes (not to mention copy-paste ESG metrics 🤐 but more on that at another time).
I'm not an economist but it often feels like a repurposing of Lloyd Best and Levitts Plantation Economy, just in this case it's carbon to satisfy the metropole's carbon budgets.
