Next-gen manufacturing platform ARRIS recently announced its latest raise of $34M in funding to fuel growth with new strategics in aerospace and consumer markets. The round saw participation from new and returning investors including ST Engineering, Zebra Technologies, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), XN, and many more. ARRIS also dropped in the announcement that in summer 2024 an industry-leading bicycle brand will release one of its top, award-winning bicycles featuring ARRIS’s new next-gen carbon fiber bicycle spokes the company launched in January — which are 2.7x stronger gram for gram than the best-in-class aero spoke in the market today. As part of their investment, Jeffrey Lam, President of Commercial Aerospace at ST Engineering said, "The use of composite structures in aerospace applications offers a compelling combination of weight savings, strength, durability, and environmental sustainability. The History of Tools: How a sewing machine inspired a saw. In 1946 Albert Kaufmann, an engineer of Scintilla AG company in Solothurn, Switzerland, replaced the needle on his wife’s sewing machine with a saw blade; after which Scintilla started producing jigsaws under name “Lesto jigsaw”. In 1954 Scintilla was acquired by Bosch. An important innovation by Scintilla-Bosch in 1966 was the “pendulum action”, where the blade tilts forward in the upward (cutting) stroke, and back for the downstroke, ejecting the chips, so the blade runs cooler and cuts faster. A significant model was the Bosch “LESTO 8 554” in which the degree of “pendulum action” could be selected to suit the material being cut. Many modern jigsaws have an adjustment for tilting the blade tip forward, but at a static, fixed angle, claiming similar benefits.
