Delegation from Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development getting to know what is the structure and role of regions and Regional Councils in Finland. Very fruitful exchanges comparing regional development in our small but energetic countries. And, of course, talking of common sporty interests whilst checking one of the landmarks in Lahti: the ski jumping hills! #regionaldevelopment #internationalisation #smartspecialisation #Lahti #Päijäthäme

Love love love this The Straits Times . Thanks for posting Royce Wee I wanna see us open the possibility for seeing beyond our borders. Singapore is but one country, there is richness in the multitude of cultures outside of Singapore. The land feels different, people relate and think differently. I hope this encourages dreaming big, being more embracing of cultures and across borders. I find the mindset of being only-Singapore makes us complacent. I’ve had to always remind those who work in regional teams that the world is bigger than this red dot, do not assume Singapore is the best or most efficient in everything. Go see and go learn and if you can’t physically go, listen, embrace, be open to learn. Even in business, the market is small here. I’ve got my eye on Asia as a region for a multitude of reasons, and I’m honestly grateful I got to grow up in Singapore, but I’ve been enriched by working outside Singapore and working with more than one country. As Einstein said, “The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know.” And that, genuinely, excites me of its possibilities. #alwayslearning #growthmindset #explore #possibilities
I find this to be a wonderful initiative by the Straits Times. It spotlights a diverse slate of Singaporeans who are making their unique impact and contributions in various corners of the world. Some are artists, chefs and musicians, while others are doctors, behavioural scientists and start-up founders ... ... and more, as many defy simple categorisation, as their life and work cut across traditional boundaries and classifications. I always cheer when Singaporeans spread their wings, promote the Singaporean brand of competence, integrity and reliability abroad, and hopefully return to Singapore at some point in the future to contribute their unique perspectives and skill-sets back home. At the same time, a part of me also has this niggling doubt and question. Why did these Singaporeans find themselves having to go overseas to live and work in the first place? Some naysayers will jump to the conclusion that they are not big enough for Singapore. I beg to differ. The right question to ask is: is Singapore big enough for them? To allow them to be the best version of themselves? To realise their hopes, dreams and ambitions? To truly sink their roots, earn fair wages, and grow their families? Perhaps in time to come, the road-less-travelled described by the Straits Times can be found right here at home in Singapore. https://lnkd.in/e5CvcJe5
