Weighing in at just 300 grams, the new "Bordeaux Air 300G" is one of the lightest Bordeaux bottles on the market. Verallia, Europe's leading manufacturer of glass packaging, will be presenting this new lightweight bottle at ProWein. The 300-gram bottle retains the classic contours of the iconic Bordeaux bottle, and doesn’t make any compromises on quality. Available in three colors – antique green, white or light green – and with two different closure systems: cork or BVS.   Corinne PAYEN, Head of Research & Development at Verallia, underlines the challenges that the project presented. The development of the bottle involved pioneering work in the modeling of mechanical resistance, including impact resistance and vertical load-bearing capacity. This process enabled the precise distribution of the glass, taking into account shaping and other relevant parameters.   Their innovative approach doesn’t end there, however. Monitoring of the industrial process and rigorous quality checks are crucial to ensure that the glass is of a consistent quality.   Reducing bottle weight has a direct impact on the CO₂ emissions of the wine industry. Around 40 percent of the carbon footprint of a wine bottle can be attributed to the glass. ProWein 2024 packaging designs that caught our eye🍷   Reflecting on an enriching experience at the leading trade fair for the wine and spirits industry last week in Düsseldorf, we took this opportunity to spark our creativity and immerse ourselves in the latest packaging trends… and let’s say we were not disappointed.   Here's our curated selection of packaging trends that deserve the spotlight:   🪵 Wood cases & sets: Opting for wood is not just a matter of aesthetics. It evokes the barrels found in wine cellars, as well as the natural aspect of wine.   🖼️ Cultural references: Including cultural references on labels is a good opportunity to highlight the wine's provenance through cultural heritage.   🍽️ Culinary experience: Wine and gastronomy go hand in hand. Some brands fully embrace this idea, which is a clever and effective way to stand out from the crowd and reach the right audience.   📍Illustrated production location: Showcasing where the wine was produced is nothing new in this industry, but some do it in a more modern way, with bright colors for example.   🐾 Animals on labels: We have seen a lot of labels with animals recently, ranging from the forest to the seabed. Having an unusual animal on a label is another fun way to stand out.    🎨 Abstract illustrations: This very artistic trend can have many motives. The competition is free to enter and open to producers, importers and retailers of all sizes, industry associations, communication agencies and other third parties operating in the wine and spirits industry. As a distributor, I'm inundated with daily inquiries about allocation availability, quantities, and pricing for Sassicaia 2021. Setting a price for this liquid treasure is challenging due to its extraordinary demand. Currently hailed as the wine of the year, Sassicaia 2021 is a coveted rarity. What attributes to its phenomenal success? It's the third time it has achieved a perfect 100-point score from the renowned Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, joining the esteemed ranks of the 1985 (vintage of the Century) and the 2016. Is it a worthy investment? Absolutely. Presently valued between 320 to 340, the wine is poised to appreciate by 10-15% by year-end.
