WHU Professor Christoph Hienerth is currently visiting MIT Sloan School of Management as a speaker at the MIT Innovation Lab, highlighting the crucial role of human techniques in driving innovation. He is presenting a paper co-authered by his doctoral student Samina Khan-Sherwani on the topic of cooking and baking. In the WHU Master in Entrepreneurship program, Professor Hienerth teaches several courses covering innovation management, projects, and theory. By studying how human techniques complement technological advancements, we can gain a deeper understanding of the origins of innovation, and how to properly integrate all aspects in value creation and diffusion. #TUM’s recent #SustainabilityWeek, organized by #CirculaTUM at Technical University of Munich Campus, focused on entrepreneurship, #business and innovation in the #CircularEconomy Under the title, “Circular Economy Spotlights - Technological Innovations and Sustainable Perspectives of the Circular Economy”, #CircularMunich was invited to give an input about Munich’s potential as a #circularcity. Our colleague and CM second chairwoman, Lina Maria Echeverri-Roeder shared our perspective and engaged in a conversation with the students about what a #CircularCity is, why we need #circular cities and how to build them. We are grateful for the invitation and would like to emphasize the importance of academia in promoting dialogue and education around the activation of the circular economy at all levels. But as humans, deep, real, face2face connections still have a strong role. Connections, network. It makes all the difference. Sharing hours of studies, the stress of exams: we love being "in it together". So is there a future to physical spaces and business schools? What content will be taught there? Will AI take over our brains, with a plugin update like our computers, with no need to learn anymore? Or is there an inherent wealth to be -- just humans?

The Silicon Valley Innovation program at UC Berkeley is based on three pivotal themes: Systems of Innovation, Entrepreneurial Strategy, and Leading Innovation. Throughout the duration of this program, we were challenged to broaden our perspectives on innovative leadership and organisational innovation strategies, to address complex challenges such as digital disruptions. Today I feel proud of such achievement. The road is long but this milestone is significant to me, because of my peers at DTU Executive MBA program, the quality of the teaching, and the dedication of DTU Executive program. Having the opportunity to visit great companies like Autodesk or Cisco, listening inspiring people as Dr. Pieter Abbeel or Sudha Jamthe for instance, was literally a blast. Finally team working with eMBA26 was a gift I am sincerely grateful for. It is not everyday I have the opportunity to meet great and inspiring People. That week in the Silicon Valley was one of them. Therefore I would like to thank Stephane Guerraz, Stig Andersen, Ida Stub Johansson and Carolyn Rutherford from DTU - Technical University of Denmark, DTU Learn for Life, DTU Executive Education for making this possible. When high-tech firms collaborate with their lead users, new (product) innovations are often produced! ❓ But how groundbreaking are these innovations? Are they Schumpeterian (i.e. disequilibrating and potentially impacting your entire industry) or Kirznerian (i.e. maintain existing standards and practice in the industry) opportunities? ❓ More importantly, under what conditions do collaborations between high-tech producer firms and their customers lead to the the disequilibrating Schumpeterian product opportunities? In our recent paper authored by Jeroen de Jong, Max Mulhuijzen, Katrin Merfeld, Coen Rigtering, Timo van Balen and Mathias Boënne, in JPIM Journal of Product Innovation Management, address exactly this question. ⚡ Our analyses show that lead userness of customers is indeed positively related to Schumpeterian product opportunities. But that this relationship is strongest when: 🚀 The collaboration is with a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿, with whom the relationship started only recently; 🐭 When the involved customers are 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 market players; 🏭 The producer firm invest a lot in their 𝗥&𝗗 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, so as to better incorporate lead customer insights. So, as a high-tech firm you shouldn’t just work with any customer if you want the chance to create groundbreaking product innovations! Throughout history, universities have enabled their local communities to thrive due to the free and dynamic circulation of people and ideas. This commitment has been steadily maintained even as societies have grown more complex, and political and economic power have spread more widely. But as many more interest groups and constituencies now vie for influence, the stakes are raised for universities to remain impactful while emphasising that science is not just another opinion or lobbying pitch. To achieve this, EUA's newly published #Innovation Agenda 2026 argues that universities should more prominently embody their role as an honest broker. Students were working on innovative solutions for Fleet such as new approaches for international expansion, debated how to enter new market segments, and how to solidify current market position. We also discussed about the Parisian entrepreneurial landscape.
