Creativity Has No Limits: Think Out of the File Cabinet On my annual trip to my son in the USA, we visited Burlington, Vermont on the 4th of July weekend. A beautiful place with one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. Lake Champlain stretches over 120 miles and forms Vermont's western border with New York. In downtown, they have created the world’s largest file cabinet, a tourist attraction, literally out of nothing using old file cabinets. Enjoy some photos!

Dr. Vivek Mansingh is appointed as Trustee at Janaagraha and Jan Urban Space I am honored to be appointed as a Trustee at the @Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship & Democracy and Jana Urban Space. Janaagraha is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming the quality of life in India's cities and towns. Having previously served as a volunteer for 20 years and as a member of Janaagraha's Governing Board for the last 7 years, I have witnessed — and been inspired by — their work driving urban governance reforms and catalyzing active citizenship. Janaagraha has been at the forefront of urban policy and governance reforms for over two decades, collaborating with various government bodies and stakeholders. They have pioneered initiatives like JnNURM, worked with central and state finance commissions, and entities like the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and NITI Aayog. As giving back is one of my important life goals, I feel privileged to take on these new roles and contribute to the mission of creating better cities and empowering citizens. Based on my book “Achieving Meaningful Success: Unleash the power of ME!”, I gave a virtual talk to thousands of Grades 9 – 12 students at Vidya schools across the country last week. The topic was “ Five things students must do to achieve amazing success”. The talk guided students on selecting a career, courses of studies, and colleges, and becoming the best version of themselves to achieve their aspirational goals. Students also asked insightful questions. In addition, the talk encouraged teachers to be mentors and shared guidelines on mentoring students. You can give time or money by associating yourself with a cause dear to you. Read the power of giving back in one of the chapters of my book. One of the institutions I support is Chitrakoot Eye Hospital, which gives sight to over 1000 less privileged people daily, 85% free of charge. I am proud of the visit by our Prime Minister Modi Ji to this amazing Eye Hospital. Marching towards “Mentoring A Million” – Lessons from Kapil Dev, discussion in Mumbai, Grand Hyatt, Feb 14, 2020. 1. Don’t bring work-related issues at home, he narrated the incident when he scored a century and his wife found out the next day through the newspaper. His idea is that we have ups and downs at work and better to shield the family from those vagaries. 2. Don’t live in the past, move on and create new memories: He found a new passion in golf, and he has made many friends there. 3. Never have a plan B: You have to give all you have and not have a backup. 4. Don’t tell your kids what to do: they learn from your actions. If you tell them to answer the phone and say you are not at home, they will learn it. 5. Don’t judge people by their looks, language, etc. Rate them by their work and outcomes. He was misjudged initially but later his talent was rewarded. 6. Let kids rough it out and make their own decisions - being there for kids and helping them all the time can reduce their independent decision-making. 7. Only talent will not help, dedication and commitment to excel is required (Vinod Kambli had talent but could not succeed, whereas Ravi Shastri had less talent but did well due to his commitment) - look for people with talent, commitment, and passion. 8. Always look for good qualities in others, so you can emulate them. (Kapil now 60+ tries to learn and pick up good qualities from people at 70+). 9. Live in the present. When having a coffee enjoy it fully. 10. Learn a few things from kids - they are smarter than us. 11. When you have created a brand make use of it wisely. 12. Be yourself and don’t create a split personality (one what you are in private and another one for public). Recently, I had a blissful encounter and conversation with the Indian cricket legend, Kapil Dev. We discussed my book, 'Achieving Meaningful Success: Unleash the Power of Me!' among other things. As I always say, 'True leadership rests in the followers’ hearts, not on a business card. It cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It has to be earned, and what better example than Kapil Paaji? The cricketing landscape in India underwent a seismic shift as Kapil Dev led his team to victory against all odds. His immense leadership qualities made the nation proud. As Kapil Dev's team lifted the coveted trophy in the 1983 World Cup, they not only triumphed over the formidable West Indies but also altered the destiny of Indian cricket forever. The victory wasn't just about cricket; it was about resilience, audacity, and the bold belief that India could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the cricketing giants of the world.
