In addition to a dramatic acceleration of renewable energy, carbon capture and removal technologies are essential to reach Net Zero, and seaweed can potentially be one of these.

Yesterday I kicked off the summer season here in #Norway at the beautiful islands off the coast of #Trondheim. I visited the seaweed farm which is part of a current joint industry project with our partners SINTEF, Equinor, Aker BP ASA, Wintershall Dea, and Ocean Rainforest. The seaweed farm is part of a three-year pilot project which investigates whether kelp can assist in ocean-based carbon removal solutions. The first kelp harvest will take place this summer and researchers have estimated the seaweed yield to be approximately 25 tons of biomass that could potentially capture 2,500 kilograms of CO₂ with today's technology. I ended the day with an office visit to our colleagues at Åkerblå AS – the aquaculture company DNV acquired last year. The acquisition of Åkerblå Group is a strategic move that will help DNV establish a robust hub for independent and knowledge-driven services within fish health, biodiversity, and technical compliance, to further enhance our service portfolio supporting our purpose of safeguarding life, property, and the environment. 📸 SINTEF
