160 years 👏 Longevity like this doesn't come easy. The transitions this company has gone through to serve it's markets is incredible. It almost makes the energy transition seem like a rinse and repeat (... almost ....). So what have I taken from DNV's legacy. 📚 Invest in your team. Build a thirst for knowledge. A capability to perform. And the motivation to exceed the limits of what's possible. 🤝 Be a partner our customers can trust. Settle for nothing short of excellence and match your customers enthusiasm to deliver exceptional results on every project. 📣 Share our learnings with industry. Not for brand positioning, but to give others ... including our competitors ... the knowledge to better safeguard life, property, and the environment (and to challenge our perspectives from time-to-time too). I have taken so much from my circa 2 years at DNV and hope to be around for a lot longer. Hopefully long enough to make the next birthday bash. DNV clearly knows how to celebrate a milestone 🎉 #LifeAtDNV

When I first mentioned the job offer from #DNV, my father's reaction was one of surprise. "DNV? Really? 😯 What would you even do there? Certify ships? You're not a surveyor..." Despite his astonishment, he encouraged me to seize the opportunity. And I did. Without knowing anyone at DNV or what the working environment would be like, I trusted my instincts and took the plunge. It turned out to be the perfect next step. 👍 I joined a team of incredible #GSS professionals who supported our European colleagues in HR, IT, and Finance. As part of a dynamic talent acquisition team for nearly four years, I had the privilege of playing a role in welcoming numerous new faces to DNV. It was a period marked by joy, a touch of stress, and immense personal and professional growth. 🌬 The journey didn't stop there. The learning curve continued to rise, and when the bold opportunity to join the #EnergySystems' Project Engineering and Development Team came my way, I hesitated momentarily. Me, alongside a team of seasoned engineers advising on #windenergy subjects? The diploma hung on my wall, but experience was yet to catch up. Did I truly belong? Yet, I’ve learned that engineering isn’t just about equations and technical prowess; it’s about people. When you’re surrounded by support, guidance, and respect, you soar. There are no falls—only helping hands to lift you higher. 🤝 And so, I embraced the challenge. Today, as I reflect on my six-year 🎇 journey, I’m amazed at how time has flown. Working within the same company for this long feels like an achievement in itself. But there’s more to explore, more to learn, and more to contribute. 🌊 Exciting News in Maritime Innovation! 🚢 The safety of mooring operations has been a top concern in the maritime industry due to a high frequency of incidents. In response, the International Group of P&I Clubs reported 858 injuries and 31 fatalities related to mooring operations over a five-year period.🌐 To address these safety concerns, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has introduced new SOLAS requirements for safe mooring. These amendments aim to enhance the strength and design of mooring arrangements, equipment selection, and maintenance practices.⚓ "With the new SOLAS requirements, we're focusing on improving the safety of mooring operations," says Bartosz Maciolowski, Principal Engineer at DNV. "This includes upgrading mooring arrangements, selecting suitable equipment, and implementing rigorous maintenance and inspection procedures." Two new guidelines, MSC.1/Circ.1619 and MSC.1/Circ.1620, have been introduced to ensure compliance with the new SOLAS requirements. These guidelines cover the design, selection, inspection, and maintenance of mooring equipment.📋 "These guidelines will impact all vessels built after January 1, 2024," explains Maciolowski. "Ship operators need to review their existing safety management systems and ensure compliance with the new regulations."🛥 A key feature of MSC.1/Circ.1620 is the requirement for shipowners to establish Ship Design Minimum Breaking Load (MBLSD) for each vessel. This ensures a more accurate prediction of when mooring lines may break, enhancing safety for crew members and onshore workers.👷♂️ "At DNV Maritime Advisory, we're committed to helping our clients achieve compliance with the new SOLAS requirements," says Yiyang Li, Senior Consultant at DNV. "We offer services to review mooring system designs, establish MBLSD, and identify mooring-related risks."
