Our first energy efficiency project in Croatia is up and running ✅ As part of our mission to contribute to a greener Europe, we are constantly striving to enhance the #energy #efficiency of energy systems for various stakeholders across the region.  This time around, we are pleased to announce that our inaugural project in #Croatia has begun generating financial and environmental savings for the #municipality of Jalžabet, where we conducted a comprehensive public lighting renovation. 💡 To be precise, the municipality will reduce its #carbon #footprint by more than 500 tons of CO2 and save over 2200 MWh of energy during the eight-year contract period.  With energy #contracting, the implementation of energy-efficient projects becomes possible without burdening the partner's budget. This approach not only yields tangible benefits for the partner but also contributes to our shared global climate #goals.

Poland looks set to lead battery storage deployments in Eastern Europe, with 9GW of battery storage projects offered grid connections and 16GW registered for the ongoing capacity market auction. At the end of 2023, Lithuania has the most operational capacity with the energisation of four 50MW installations owned and operated as a single battery park by Energy Cells. Hungary has a small number of installations just above 30MW, while Poland and Romania have little more than 10MW of operating capacity. 🚛🔋 Exciting news in sustainable transportation infrastructure! Federal Ministers Volker Wissing and Robert Habeck have launched a project to build a nationwide fast-charging network for heavy-duty vehicles. 💡During today's webinar we had a chance to see why #Sustainable #PlusEnergy Neighbourhoods are beneficial, but also which barriers are slowing their development. 🎤 Victoria Taranu from BPIE - Buildings Performance Institute Europe gave a concise overview on what is the #synikia project aiming to achieve through #SPEN and what legal framework would be needed. ⚡ A #SPEN is more than highly energy efficient buildings. It means ensuring the surplus of energy at neighbourhood level, but also #socialsustainability and engagement of the neighbours, creating shared spaces activities services, including the co-design process in all development stages, and finally improving indoor environmental quality. When the whole community is engaged, the society as a whole along with citizens are benefiting. 🏘 While certain technologies already exist, by using the neighbourhood scale, it is possible to experiment and adapt them to different contexts. In the syn.ikia project, whether it is new construction or renovation, minimal requirements are exceeded, to achieve the positive energy balance at building and then neighbourhood level. 📑 The neighbourhood approach is gaining momentum, and this has been recognised in the European legislation negotiations. In order to have a clear perspective over the legislative framework, a set of policy recommendations was drafted, analyzing the context from the four countries of the project. The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the Renewable Energy Directive, and Electricity Market Design are just some of the elements that were taken into consideration.
