'Consumers aren't just mums from Surrey'.
It was eight years ago that a client said that to me... and it's been in my head ever since.
So inspired by that quote, on May 16th next year, I'm planning to run another all day event with the working title 'You are not your consumer'.
10 speakers, a client panel, normal format (for those that have attended one before).
We're aiming to explore the potential gulf between senior leadership and the consumer, the them and us mentality, the danger of echo chambers, generational generalisations & stereotyping, the answer to all this not being 'more data', and much, much more - all reasons that we're sucked into believing that we know the consumer better than we do.
The commercial impact of this is of course huge.
Talking of commercial impact, the really good news is that we won't be charging anyone to attend as we want as many people as possible to come along.
But, before I press go, I do need to know whether this is a topic of interest.
No commitment needed at this point, just whether you're interested and what you'd like to hear about on the day (speaker suggestions are always welcome).
So, if it sounds like this might be your thing, do me a favour and let me know using the below form. We get the numbers, we'll do it. If not, we won't. Please (and thank you).

And if you're thinking, 'ooh does no charge = no value', in this case you'd be wrong. Just read the comments below about this year's event (on lying).
And if you're thinking, 'ugh, not another event with brands telling us how great they are', our events aren't normal events - we aim to bring the outside world in, which is why previous speakers have included a hostage negotiator, a theatre producer, journalists, a marine, authors, strategists, psychologists, doctors, entrepreneurs, television producers, documentary makers…
“An absolute banger of a day. As a 20 conference veteran, I can honestly say that was the best consistently interesting industry event I've been to. Ever.”
“So good for an event to follow a narrative thread from so many different viewpoints and for multiple speakers to cater their presentations so seamlessly to the concept.”
“What a fabulous event! Really cracking agenda of very relevant but diverse talks. We loved it all, and it has challenged our thinking.”
“Took so much from it and learned a lot of things I didn’t expect to learn - for someone who loves learning this was a thrill!! Brilliant event.”
“Fantastic event, inspiring speakers… so so much food for thought! I feel I want to play it all back, as there was just so much to take away. It totally rocked!”
Sponsors / contributors welcome ;-)
Regarding the picture below, I said a not dissimilar thing about putting on another event after our 4th go, but here we are again...
What a great event! Thank you to the attendees for making today such a valuable and fascinating roundtable.
