In collaboration with colleagues from GSK, AstraZeneca, Gericke, and DFE Pharma, #CMAC researchers have published 'A modified Kushner-Moore approach to characterising small-scale blender performance impact on tablet compaction'. This is an open-access article on the extent of lubrication of direct-compaction tablets and how it is impacted by the performance of both high and low-shear blenders. Control and foreknowledge of the impact of blender operation are critical for meeting tablet Critical Quality Attributes. Transferable scale-up models for low-shear batch blenders exist in the literature but are insufficient to describe high-RPM, high-shear mixers such as those with a static body and internal rotating mixing paddles.
