Supersonic passenger flights could be the next big thing in aviation. Concorde was the first of its kind back some decades ago. It was unfortunately paused in the early 2000s due to safety concerns. There are nearly half a dozen companies in this space today. #nasa is currently working on the X-59 which is going to reduce the impact of the sonic boom. Supersonic flights also reduce the carbon footprint by using Sustainable Aviation Fuels. We could see one of the supersonic jets by as soon as 2029. #supersonic #aviation #sustainability

NASA has achieved some amazing things, but outside of the Apollo Moon landings, there are a couple of missions that boggle my mind. Voyager 1 and 2 have lasted decades beyond their expected service life - and are billions of kilometres further away than planned and still sending data - but it is Ingenuity's flights on Mars that are really stunning. Originally intended to make only five flights - assuming a helicopter on Mars even worked - Ingenuity completed seventy-two flights in nearly three years, as this great little video shows. Ingenuity was grounded early this year due to rotor blade damage, but this tiny chopper (a mere 121 cm × 49 cm × 52 cm, in case you're wondering) proved flight on other worlds is possible and a small piece of wing cloth from the Wright brothers' 1903 Wright Flyer is attached to a cable underneath Ingenuity's solar panel as homage to the first powered flight on Earth. Collectively, we spend a pittance on space exploration and as far as I'm concerned, it is worth every cent in terms of innovation and inspiration alone 👍 https://lnkd.in/geZTVt7M
