So it’s that time of year where is dust off my training gear and drive towards raising money for cancer research. Any donations would be gladly received as every little helps! The goal is to climb the height of Everest, which is 8,848m, on Snowdon, which means that I need to summit the tallest mountain in Wales at least 10 times over 3 days. I will need to cover the distance of a marathon each day, but uphill! Update on training - Week 2. Grumpyness factor - 7.5/10. (Down from 9 last week!). Despite eating a lot more snacks and putting back on nearly a pound last week, I've managed to bring my average 10k run time down this week. I'm now running at a faster pace than I was in October (pre-marathon). Why? I've put a lot more focus this time on weight training as well as cardio. For every hour I spend on the road/treadmill, I make sure I match it with weights. I definitely feel stronger, and hill runs seem a lot easier. In other news.... we've already managed to surpass the fundraising target for Archway. With less than 2 weeks since we set up the page, we're already at £200 (original target was £150). Hi all, I’m breaking a long period of LinkedIn inactivity to rattle a very important tin. After the virtual Melbourne Marathon in December 2020, I firmly said ‘never again’, but enough time has now passed and I’ve conveniently forgotten about all the agony. So, I’ll be running the 2024 Melbourne Marathon. I have three goals: 1. Make it across the line (never guaranteed as those who have seen my running technique can attest) 2. Run a PB (current PB is 3.19.22 – posting for accountability purposes) 3. And most importantly, raise much needed funds for a cause that’s close to my heart: support for premature babies and their families. I can’t believe that we’re nearly there and I have just got through this by thinking of it as a week at a time. I also managed to do the first post run dip 🏊 of the summer ☀️. This week’s tip is: 💡PATIENCE💡 Patience is important, especially with a long-term goal, once that decision is made to stick to it, then just do it without question and believe in the results. You’re probably going to be on the journey much longer than the sense of reward that you get from it, so you need to believe in it, you need to stick with it, and you need to wait for those results to come. If change was easy, everyone would do it and we wouldn’t have the need for lots of coaching and self-development programmes. IRONMAN FOR DIABETES PART 6 Six months ago I started training for the Ironman (triathlon) in Italy. I did this to raise money for the Diabetes Fonds. Every month I share my insights of what I learned. This month I learned a very interesting thing about: Thinking about nothing is sometimes pleasant, but not for too long. These days I have a lot more time to think, time to reflect on why I started this adventure, time to contemplate whether to stop or train even harder. It's good to look back regularly, to pause in the present, and look towards the future. The same applies in business life, whether it's with clients, your own employees, or your own work. Looking back is beneficial to realize what you've already accomplished, what went well, what didn't, and what you can be proud of. These 'lessons learned' can then be carried into the future. I do the same with training. Each training is a step closer to the goal with adjustments compared to the previous one. Adapt and apply. Furthermore, it's important to acknowledge what you've already achieved, where you reflect on all the work you've done. This helps the team stay engaged with the work instead of drifting away and losing sight of why they're doing it. And then looking towards the future. The next six months will be tough. I have to train even more and longer. But we do this to achieve the goal (finishing the Ironman in Italy) as well as possible. By outlining what still needs to be done to reach the goal, you sharpen the focus of all team members to continue with determination. I will compete the full Ironman Italy to raise money for the Diabetes Fonds. My goal is to reach €5.000 euro, currently I reached 62% of my goal!!! 🙏 I still need €1.855 euro. Critical Project Lesson No. 25 – Project Kick Off After Delay for Re-scoping / Re-Schedule / Re-Costing Purposes Sometimes it's deemed essential to place a moratorium on a project till more is know about the scope / schedule / quality exceptions / costs etc. Once all the unknowns are clarified it is time to re-start the project armed with a greater level of confidence that what is to be done is achievable and that the benefits sought can be released. This of course a create a greater level of scope but also greater understanding of how the project can be delivered successfully. So, after many months in abeyance, it's time to go again in my efforts to raise some money for charity, but putting myself through the mill. I couldn't complete the Kilimanjaro / Boxing double that I had planned for 2023 due to too many other commitments. The delay means that there is now. "extra scope," to be completed in 2024, but this extra scope should also hopefully release extra benefits in terms of additional funds for the chosen cancer charity. IRONMAN FOR DIABETES PART 4 Four months ago I started training for the Ironman (triathlon) in Italy. I did this to raise money for the Diabetes Fonds. This month I learned a very interesting thing: Work hard, make plans, make finances clear and work even harder. It's all part of it. But knowing when it is time to take a rest, reflect on what went well and what went less well and look to the future is just as important. People often get caught up in work without even thinking about it. By slowing down every now and then, you can get going again. Overworking is never good, just like overtraining. You could get an injury and not be able to train for a long time. Getting burned out is the same. By taking an occasional rest you ensure that you can recharge your internal battery, so that you can get back to work. On to 2024!💪🏼 I will compete the full Ironman Italy to raise money for the Diabetes Fonds. My goal is to reach €5.000 euro, currently I am over halfway my goal (54% raised)!!! 🙏 I still need €2.285 euro. Share/like/comment on this post so that even more people see it.
