Meet Raul Pena, Desert Jet Center Line Service Technician and recent recipient of Desert Jet's Jacqueline Cochran Award of Excellence. The "Jackie" employee recognition award is named in honor of aviation legend Jacqueline Cochran and awarded to a Desert Jet employee nominated by their peers for displaying exemplary traits in performance, service to others, and commitment to safety. Here are a few quotes from Raul's fellow teammates: "Raul displays all the best attributes you would want in a line technician – always has a smile and greets everyone to brighten their day, while paying close attention not just to the big stuff but to the small stuff as well." "There is a kindness to him. He is always thankful and appreciates his fellow teammates." "He shares his aviation knowledge with others. Is respectful and, in turn, is highly respected." "Great work effort, professional, hardworking and trustworthy." "Raul rushes to help, looks for tasks during downtime, and anticipates customers' needs." Angel Flight West also receives a donation from Desert Jet on behalf of every award recipient to fund a flight for #AFW passengers like Cammy from Westcliffe, Colorado, who needed an essential and life-saving surgery in Phoenix, Arizona. With the help of AFW's dedicated volunteer pilots, Cammy was flown to and from her small town, helping make an already stressful life event more manageable. Cammy graciously said, "I am overcome with gratitude for Sean's generosity and for him going above and beyond. There are some people who truly make the world a better place, and Sean is one of them." We're honored to support AFW and charitable aviation through our employee recognition award program, the Jackie. #DesertJet #employeerecognition #culturematters #customerservice #businessaviation #FBO #privatejettravel #nbaa #WeAreDesertJet

CAHF is thrilled to share insights from #InductedMember Kathy Fox. 1. Can you share a memorable moment from your aviation career that had a significant impact on your life and work? Being appointed to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada - Bureau de la sécurité des transports du Canada, first as a Board Member (2007) and then as Chair/CEO (2014). I have always been interested in safety, from the time I started jumping out of airplanes at the age of 16, through my career as an air traffic controller, and as a commercial pilot and current flight instructor. To be able to influence transportation safety and make a difference over the past 16+ years at the TSB has been a significant meaningful experience for me personally. I love working with the investigators who are professional experts and passionate about their work. It’s tough work that can really make a difference by providing answers to those directly involved or families and loved ones of those lost in accidents and by making recommendations to government and industry on how to make aviation safer. My experience at the #TSB has shaped my perception of risk and influenced my own flying behaviour. It has been a real honour to serve in this capacity, and a great way to finish off my career. 2. What inspired you to pursue a career in aviation, and how has your journey influenced the field of aviation in Canada? I have always wanted to fly from as early as I can remember. Perhaps it is in my genes, having 3 uncles (my mother’s older brothers) who were building and flying gliders back in the 1930s. My Uncle Norman Bruce is known as the ‘’grandfather of gliding’’ in Western Canada and paid for my first official flight lesson back in Calgary in 1967. I hope my journey has influenced the flight students I have taught, and certainly some of the work I did at TC and then at NAV CANADA where I occupied various senior management positions including as Director of #Safety and Quality (charged with implementing one of the first safety management systems in aviation in Canada); or Assistant VP, Air Traffic Services, who managed our tactical response to 9/11; or as VP, Operations, introducing the use of radar technology to improve situational awareness for flight service specialists. Certainly, now at the TSB, our work has a very significant influence on aviation safety, and I am proud to lead this organization. 3. As an inductee, what message or piece of advice would you like to pass on to the next generation of aspiring aviators and aviation enthusiasts? Follow your dreams. Be persistent but flexible. Accept opportunities outside your comfort zone – you never know where they may lead. Above all, have fun! ***** To donate to our Giving Tuesday campaign, please click the link in our bio! Hello my friends and business associates, I hope this holiday season finds you all doing great. I know for many of you, we haven't talked in a while, but please know you are in my thoughts this holiday season. I am reaching out for a specific ask though, and I hope you will take a moment to consider this request. For 17 years, Able Flight ( www.ableflight.org) has provided scholarships, logistical support and mentoring for people with physical disabilities to obtain pilot's license and vocational training for jobs in aviation. The organization - largely run by one individual - has helped over one hundred people obtain sports pilot or advanced licenses as well as jobs as dispatchers and aircraft mechanics. In the process, Able Flight has impacted hundreds more people who have seen their friends and loved ones accomplish amazing things; things 99% of abled-bodied people will never achieve. These are people from all walks of life including military members who have been severely injured in battle; civilians who were victims of a an accident, or worse, a crime and people born with deformities like Jessica Cox who was born without any arms and is currently planning a flight around the world. I have witnessed many Able Flight scholars go from depression and despair due to a recent or on-going disability to becoming confident pilots who let nothing stand in their way any more. It always seems miraculous. But truthfully, there is no miracle. Able Flight is connecting the drive and determination they bring to the table with your generosity. Will you please help us continue the success? Able Flight has identified an opportunity to acquire two purpose built aircraft which will be modified to enable hand control. These aircraft will be used to expand the program while managing costs, as currently program aircraft must be rented to provide flight training. You can help in any of these 3 ways : 1) If you know someone with a dream of becoming a pilot, but is held back by disability - send them my way. We can help. 2) Share this email to your network. You never know what that might bring. 3) Please give if you can : Every bit helps. You can easily donate to our latest drive at: https://gofund.me/c4c37c03 As always, if there is anything I can ever do for you, please just ask. Thank you, sincerely, for considering helping us this year.

As someone who utilizes aviation services, whether for business or personal travel, it's crucial to be aware of the challenges ahead. Recent projections indicate that the aviation sector will require an additional 2.3 million skilled professionals over the next two decades to meet growing demand. This includes pilots, maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers, and various other roles critical to the industry's functioning. The implications of this shortage are significant and far-reaching. Without an adequate workforce, airlines may struggle to maintain schedules, ensure safety standards, and expand services to meet the needs of passengers and cargo transport. Moreover, shortages in essential personnel could lead to increased operational costs and potentially compromise the overall efficiency and reliability of air travel. It's imperative that we take action now to mitigate the impact of this impending crisis. Flying cars might be closer than you think. After attending the Global Advanced Air Mobility (#AAM) Forum’s 2024 Winter Session hosted by @Advanced Air Mobility Institute and hearing from a range of global representatives on their country’s progress in AAM programs, and the development of these programs, I left inspired about the future of AAM. From pilot programs being underway and candid conversations on how the #AEC industry can support the initiatives through things like #electrification and battery charging infrastructure. I knew that #TeamHenderson was on the right track to support the future of travel and drive these initiatives forward. My main takeaway was the scalability of a successful program. The first city to launch a viable AAM program will set the stage for other cities to replicate efficiently – launching us into the Age of the Jetsons”. #UrbanMobility #Innovation Advanced Air Mobility Institute
