“Your book map allowed me to become an author.” A lawyer came to me for help with her book. She tried creating an outline on her own. Despite spending weeks on it, she didn’t like how it turned out. Not long ago, someone asked my co-author @JaneFerre, "What prompted you to write this book about becoming a podcast guest with Deborah?" Her answer follows... "Well, we go way back! We have been part of the same online mastermind since 2018 and have both worked as mentors for the program. When Deborah was in London, we met up at a pub with @nigeldavies." Jane also said, "I was hosting a series of LinkedIn Lives where I would ask experts that I knew to talk about their expertise with my audience. As Deb was a writer, I asked her to talk to my audience about writing the perfect cover letter to accompany their CV when applying for a job. Long story short, I had already written an eBook called 'Create a CV that will get you in front of the hiring manager' as well as '27 Challenging Interview Questions (and how to answer them).' The next natural step was to create an eBook full of cover letter templates, and I asked Deborah if she would like to join me. Fast forward 18 months, and she approached me about creating another eBook. This time the topic is how to secure guest slots on podcasts. Deb helps authors to write their books and once these are written authors need to get their message out there about their books. Being a podcast guest is an effective way to do this. 🤩Before you pitch to a podcast, you should listen to at least one episode. Doing this gives you an idea about how you would be a good fit and also about the style of the podcast. For example, does the host follow a set of questions or is the conversation flowing and free? If you want to appear on a podcast, then you should know exactly what to expect. On a podcast recently, the host asked me this simple question. Yet I realized I had not written about the topic lately. How did you come to do this work? I studied creative writing in grad school and earned the MFA. I worked as a copywriter in Florida to pay for grad school — and sold a lot of grapefruit with my words. Lol When I returned to Maryland, I worked in direct marketing managing projects for national nonprofits. I expanded my skills into SEO and PPC. While working full time, a publisher accepted my book and published it. Bloomsbury (New York, London, Oxford) published another one. I spoke at colleges, universities and museums. And I taught writing for Johns Hopkins and The Writer’s Center. Now I combine my copywriting, marketing and teaching skills to coach leaders to write their books.
