🚀 𝗠𝘆 𝟱 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟱 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 When my most recent hire walked in to sign their contract this week, I experienced a mix of emotions—relief and anxiety. Relief because, as a Manager, navigating the hiring process can be taxing. The rigorous evaluation and decision-making involved make it a challenging journey. But also anxiety because bringing someone onto your team comes with a substantial load of responsibility towards both the candidate and the company: 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘐 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵? ... To make the hiring process as bulletproof as it can be, here are my top 5 tips: 1️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲: Begin by shaping the role based on a clear understanding of your business challenges, maturity, and the complementary skills required to augment your existing team. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 regarding the ideal candidate. I've found the Genius Sheet, introduced to me by Thomas Barta and Syl Saller CBE in their The Marketing Leadership Masterclass, invaluable for this. It emphasizes that the ideal candidate doesn't need to tick ALL the boxes but the RIGHT ones. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: when you hit a crossroads, external perspectives from mentors can help you gain a fresh outlook. 4️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗛𝗥 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲: Stay in constant exchange with the people team to be responsive and decisive. Their expertise can be instrumental in streamlining processes and ensuring a smooth hiring experience. 5️⃣ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮 𝟯𝟲𝟬° 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: Gain comprehensive insights about the candidates. This 5-step approach has proven effective for us: i. 𝘏𝘙 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 ii. 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵 iii. 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 iv. 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘍𝘪𝘵 v. 𝘛𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 Noone can tell what the future holds. For now, I am both relieved and anxious, but more than anything thrilled about this new milestone towards building an A-team and bringing Aware to the next level 🚀 🔫 What's your silver bullet for a successful hire? Thank you to the brands and executives (you know who you are!) that have inspired me to compose this piece about considering cross-industry talent. I hope it will be a helpful read for your business.
When and how should a company look outside of its industry for new leaders? This trend is on the rise, as companies increasingly prioritize qualities like leadership and agility over proven industry success when hiring executives to navigate through uncertain times. But cross-industry searches aren't a silver bullet, and they require additional levels of clarity, communication, and structure to stay on track and yield desired results. Dana Levine continues to be unmatched with the level of thought and precision she puts into placing the best candidates with the world's top brands at Kirk Palmer Associates. Read this most recent article to learn how thinking outside the box allows her to surprise and delight her clients by bringing a diverse collection of great executives to the table. "There is a notable rise in interest from companies seeking executive talent beyond their industries of focus. This spike in demand is transforming the talent pool, with companies prioritizing leadership and adaptability over proven industry success to navigate through uncertain times." I have known Dana to practice the same ever since we met. After all, she went for me, and I was a little different. She says it was my "cute little tush" that got her. But wait, she talks a lot about the importance of bringing in new styles of leadership lately. Should I be worried? Like, is she trying to tell me something at home? This is actually quite alarming... #executivesearch #privateequity #retail #retailmanagement

Just finished the course “Career Advice from Some of the Biggest Names in Business” by LinkedIn News! There is so much to learn from these short, concise, and meaningful interviews with motivating leaders. A commonality I found among these interviews was the role of soft skills in each leader's success and the impact on their teams. Along their journeys, they also benefited from the support of dedicated mentors ready to lend a hand and encourage them to take risks and follow their instincts. This highlights the importance of building networks and seeking advice. Another shared trait among them? The significance of paying it forward and their eagerness to help others. Here are some bite-sized lessons from the 80+ interviews I dove into during this course: - Do your job so well and with so much meaning that people will say no one can do it better than you. Make yourself indispensable. I would say, go the extra mile. - Spend your life learning! - Have the vision to look beyond the present, aiming for impactful goals and figuring out how to reach them. - Nurture your curiosity and the bravery to constantly chase new challenges and opportunities for growth. - Work hard, get things done, and follow up. #CareerAdvise #Leadership https://lnkd.in/enjJuBy7 #careermanagement.

The labor market has shifted, and we are seeing key changes in how we need to position ourselves for top jobs. There are four trends that are being seen that need to be reflected in our resume, career plan and everyday behavior. 1. Strategic thinking is a big factor in accelerating your career. Being a Doer or Subject Matter Expert is no longer working like it once did. 2. The economy is tightening, and companies are rethinking promotions and raises. 3. Building relationships inside and outside of your industry is more important than ever. Companies are looking for thought leaders who can help take their business to the next level. 4. Your branding and messaging need to reflect the role you seek. What habits can you start putting in place to shift your thoughts and behavior to show up differently to add value to your company?

4 KEY MOVES TO LAND THAT EXECUTIVE ROLE YOU'RE AFTER Are you on the brink of the executive suite but can't seem to step through the door? Recently, I guided three directors into executive director or VP roles they had been eyeing for years. Their career leap wasn't accidental—it was strategic. These leaders transformed their trajectory by adopting the strategies we developed based on their unique strengths and the specific demands of the executive roles they aspired to. 1️⃣ Personal Brand Overhaul: We began by re-engineering their LinkedIn profiles and resumes to showcase not just their history, but their potential impact. 2️⃣Strategic Networking: They engaged in targeted networking, connecting with key influencers and decision-makers in their desired industry. 3️⃣Leadership Storytelling: We crafted compelling narratives around their achievements, turning experiences into stories that resonate with boards and search committees. 4️⃣ Interview Mastery: Focused preparation on critical issues facing today's leaders, ensuring they could speak with authority on how they'd navigate these challenges and resonate with the problems keeping the decision-makers up at night. Start today by reassessing your professional brand. Does it reflect where you're going, or just where you've been? Then, reach out to someone in your desired role and request a brief, informational discussion. Ready to step up? Let's talk. Message me or Comment "Elevate" below!
